    Default 5 man Hunter crew?

I really enjoy the hunter.... I think a 5 man Hunter team would be really fun. Is it a decent option for any 5 man zones at different levels? I know if the mob gets too close then I am pretty much useless. But I could tear through content with 5 BM Hunters all sending their pet in or 5 Marks all leading off with that aimed short or whatever that high dmg shot is.

I know I couldnt do everything, but could I do a lot of instances and a lot of content with a 5 Man hunter group from levels 70+?

Considering that there are videos of someone soloing a heroic cata instance as a hunter... I'm convinced ANYTHING is possible. However, how easy it would be? I'm not sure.

I'm still a fairly new boxer, but so far I have found Hunter to be the most challenging to control in a multi-class set-up due to the spacing + pet control. I find I have to pay more attention to the hunter in one of my groups way more than I do any caster DPS I've used.

That said - I say go for it.

I would have to imagine though you could do a lot of content with the use of formations etc. for spacing. Not sure for heavy moving fights. I know that solo hunter used some Tier 5 gear that heals pets which may be necessary to succeed in later instances.

Five hunters is a very fun composition for questing.

You can likely do a lot of the non-heroic instances as well.
And once you outgear the instance, even heroics would be possible; I've seen videos of five mages, which is no tank and no healer, doing a lot of late WotLK content.

For PvP, or world pvp if you're on a pvp server, you do very well against anything you see initially or that you attack.
But cannot really prevent a stealth class from closing to melee.
And can have players 'add', from the other direction.

    Hunters have Disengage.
They have three trap types per hunter, which is fairly decent close in damage.

If you like the composition, give it a shot.
Especially if you're in RAF, get a lot of classes to 60+.
Worst case scenario, five more transmutes a day which makes you decent gold.

That really isn't a fair comparison as it would be nearly impossible to coordinate ranged frost traps to keep 4-5 of the mobs sheeped while you blew up one at a time. The only reason the all-mage group worked was because there was only one mob attacking at a time, and that one was slowed greatly and only got off a few hits before falling over dead.

Unless we're talking about some other videos besides the ICC/BH trash farm videos.

    Default Hunter Lead

I find when the hunter leads I have a better time of it in one of my mixed class teams. As long as I give pets time to get a bit of aggro lead it is very effective. And dps at range with 5, very useful in straight dps in PVE, pvp I can see a few issues.

Frostheim has a series of posts over at WHU that, amongst other things, talk seriously about pets tanking heroics & above in Cataclysm. You biggest challenge with such a team are the consequences of splash damage: you have no easily managed CC (even though you have five tanks) and no easy way to heal the group.

I run with a 3 hunter setup for a change of pace and I really enjoy it. It's not too bad if things get into melee, you have your traps and your disengage to fall back on

I'd suggest sticking with PvP and questing content though. They're really fun to stand in AV at IWB or SHB and rip apart the horde as they run past If you were doing 5 hunters, I'd suggest steering clear of 10 man BGs. You get a LOT of hate if things go wrong

As far as heroics and instances, as I only run 3 I can't comment but I agree with the comments posted above.

I ran a 5 hunters group to level 70 and swapped in a druid for healing between 70 and 80.

I found pet control to be rather easy as I used identical pets. It really felt like controlling only one pet (with 4 times shorter cooldowns). I could run instances with just 5 hunters pre-70. The druid made it possible to run Wrath instances, but I could not do any heroics. The pets would just not tank well enough.

Bottom line : Multi-boxed hunters are very fun, but I would bring a healer along for more versatility.

Back in BC there was nothing more fun than having 5 squealing pigs chasing someone down in an AV.... except maybe 15 squealing pigs when three of us in the mboxing guild did it at the same time. I personally couldn't do dungeons or heroics with them but for PvP and questing they were awesome.
