Idea: Vanilla/TBC/WOTLK realm on live.

Hey guys,

I have been thinking a while on this idea for now. My idea is to make a realm where maxlevel is 60, 70 and 80.

For example if blizzard puts a new realm with TBC (max level 70) in the realmlist, with the latest patch before WotLK came out, that would be awesome.

We can play TBC or vanilla on those realm with the old patches that were made for that expension. Also blizzard would have a lot less complaining that vanilla/tbc was better.

Also a lot of my friends that quitted WoW in WotLK say: "If some day i have to chance to play vanilla/tbc like i used to do back in the days, i would break up with my girlfriend, quit work and school, and play WoW non-stop." So maybe Blizzard also gain more players, or atleast players that decided to stop playing because they didn't like this or that expension.

People have been asking Blizzard for such realms since the release of TBC... 4+ years ago. Their answer has always been "no."
The only way I could ever see them wasting time maintaining servers with different patches would be for people to pay extra
money for access to those servers. You can't say, "Well just make one or two servers, it won't be that much to maintain."
How many people do you think would flock to those servers? How overpopulated would they be?

Give an inch, they'll take a mile.

If Blizzard did end up doing such a thing, they'd have how many more people asking for more and more shit with these new
servers? I'm sure some talent or class was broken in 2.4.3... should Blizzard be obligated to fix or "balance" this? Why or why
not? The new set of endless requests and suggestions and complaints that Blizzard would have to take care of if they did in
fact create such servers.

If they did do it, of course I would play on these servers. WoW is almost ruined for me in its current state and I would like to go
back to TBC or Vanilla for a little taste of what I miss.

But... perhaps it is best left in the past...

Plus there would be the pain in the ass to find old versions of most addons, people constantly budging addon authors to release their addons for different versions of wow .. Blizzard has the habit of deeply modifying lua api every expansion.

Not to mention all the interface improvements you would have to live without since many were introduced during or after WOLT : Improved raid frames, dungeon finder, guild perks, heirlooms, dungeons maps, instant mail between toons of the same account, battle.net, authenticators etc.

Don't know what would Blizzard do about arena seasons in a never ending TBC server.

I agree with Fenril. There's too many issues to think about and it will lead to too much "what's the 'right' version of X server?"

Do we get all the races in Vanilla that we have now? All the same classes? What about the roles those classes play? Does this mean pallies and shamans are both 3rd string tanks again? Druids will only be useful as resto? What about racials? Talent points and trees?

Do you go back to a world where a normal upgrade path included going from grey to green at level 50? Does this mean there's going to be 6 different versions of the same piece of armor to account for the Vanilla version, the BC version, the Wrath Version, the Cata Version, the mid-expansion stat redistribution....

Which version of quests? And Which version of the world?

What about things like functionality and addons? Do we get to go back to a vanilla where whispercasting still works and click+commas still work and addons can decide who to decurse?

Not only do those questions have to be answered, they also will have to be explained and all of it will need to be maintained. It's not really a matter of just plugging in the old saved game and loading from there like a console game.

My favorite era of Warcraft is definitely late Burning Crusade.

Probably with Hyjal and BT as the top raids, Sunwell not released yet.
And needing to kill both Vash'j and Kael, before gaining access to Tier 6.
Our guild had Vash'j on farm, and could consistently get Kael'Thas to the four advisor stage, but not kill him (only two guilds were in T6 at that point).

I really liked the balance of heroics at that point.
Definitely a challenge for the later ones, not a walk in the park... but doable with a decent group.
And going by videos on this site, boxable too.
I was in the middle of my RAF, and there were probably a couple of months before WotLK launched.



I don't see Blizzard ever doing this.
But it would be fun.

Would be awesome. And they can also get realms up with the last patch made for vanilla, tbc and wotlk and just say: The game is unbalanced, and you don't have battle.net etc. etc. but you asked for a realm like the old way, and here you have it.

They could always start with S1 and go till S4 and on S5 you just get improved stats on gear with a new model that you could always use from S5 (wotlk first season).

Honestly, I wouldnt mind going back to woltk. I just want to progress my character/s without having to join a raiding guild and committing to hours of raiding each week with people(kids) I would rather bitch slap than take orders or any directions from. Gdkp was amazing in this respect.

Woltk was pretty easy at the end to gain pve gear from, pvp was ok*. I enjoyed the fairly easy to get pve gear, 15-20 min heroics. Not the 2 hour cockblock/wipefest that pugs are now. While in pvp burst was high in woltk, it made for fast games. Even in cata only masochists play dps/healer in 2v2 in that there are far too many 45min games, and 3s its always based on fotm or non dr CCs which is the same thing as woltk. Every patch or season brings a new fotm.

I am not a fan of linear questing, linear raiding. If wow had linear pvping I would be done. I am very happy I dont have to do the honor grind ever again on any characters unless they are new.

I guess I am in the minority, I dont play video games or wow for any sense of achievement. They are entertainment, a break away from the harsh reality that we face in everyday life. People who boast about video game achievements or accomplishments are like winners at the Special Olympics. At the end of the day youre still a fucking retard.
