Actually, you don't even need custom layouts to arrange the unit frames alphabetically. Simply selecting the 25 man layout will automatically sort them alphabetically. I select the 25 man layout for all party configurations (i.e. solo, 5 man, 10 man, etc..). I'm not sure if the 40 man layout does this or not (for BG's or classic 40 mans), but I would guess it does.

I find this a good option since changing the layout based on group size can have an effect on your situational awareness. When you are used to a specific layout having it changed can cause you to have to focus more on the unit frames and less on what's going on in the battle. At least it seems that way to me and I've been a hardcore raid healer for years.

So always having it in the 25 man layout means nothing changes in your setup, you just have more boxes in a bigger group and empty space in a smaller group.

I like the custom layout, so I have my toons in column one.
Which makes it very easy to heal them in battlegrounds/raids, because they're always in the same relative (alphabetical) position.

I've not played around with too many of the default sorts.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.
