Default Anyone have a single gpu 2G card?

    I been looking at this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Looks like the cheapest 2G card available.

Just trying to figure out if this and a raptor would be comparable to a 1G video card and a SSD, in terms of texture lag elimination.

Right now my SSD (revo) is getting 300MB/s and .13 ms latency compare to my raptor 75 or so MB/s and 8.5ms latency.

I'm thinking that having twice the memory on your video card is like doubleing the speed of your disk access (because you only have to access it 1/2 the time).

In fact if each client were to have enough video ram for all its textures it would not need to access the drive at all .....

No doubt this kind of set up would be better in BG's and empty zones where there is not much texture swaping; the question is would it be comparable in Org?

If its better in Wintergrasp or TB maybe its worth to take a hit in Org .....

Hopefully 8G ram chips are out in a year or two and we can get the whole wow folder in ram.

No non-ecc 8G rams available yet that I can see but ...

No single cpu 6 slot server boards ...

Well for $1000 and a server mother board (12 slot but you only gonna use 6 and one cpu) you get 48G ram and can get the wow folder in there:

    Hummm ....

rock a xeon on an x58 and run ecc ram. 8gb ecc rdimms are exactly 2x the cost of 4gb ecc rdimms and have superior protection over udimms against errors (both address and data protection).

Need to read up on that.

Ok here we are: non-ecc or ecc ram up to 48G, single processor board, X58, xeon or i7!

Just pick up this board and spend $1000 for 48G ram and you are golden!

    HI Sam DeathWalker,

Maybe I am misreading something, but I checked out that link for the mobo DX58SO2 and on page nine of the technical specifications it says :

"Support for up to 24 GB of system memory with 6 DIMMs using 4 Gb memory
    technology."

So is 48 GB not possible on this board?

Not trying to nitpick, , just wanted to mention I saw that, and didn't know how to send a pm.

That link above clearly states 48G.

But, as you correctly point out it says elsewhere 24G, probably thats a bit older before 8G rams were tested or there has been bios updates to support 48G since that was written.

    What?

No. Having more vram/ram might reduce the FREQUENCY of disk access, but speed would remain relatively static.

Roger on the bios updates, etc. I am glad. Thought I had better say something before you spent uber dollars for a 24 GB only board. I didn't want you to be disappointed.

Glad there was more to it.
