Default Best end game tank/ three box set-up

I really don't know enough about the game. Didn't even know they were making Rift till last week. If you were making a raid tank, what tank would it be and what classes would you choose for support boxing that tank? I'll probably 2-box......maybe even 3-box, but I was 12-boxxing EQ1, so who knows.

Currently at this time the theorycrafting behind the Best in Class make up has not been 100% determined, to the dev's there is no Correct way to play the class or role. I take that to mean that they dont intend there to be 1 specific best in class tank, etc... Of course this could all change fairly quickly.

I hear there are decent Rogue tanks out there, that i myself have not seem yet to see the numbers. I run the a highly recommended tank build which is the Paladin, Reaver, Warlord, but that by no means may be the best.

It is really hard to know what the "best" end game tank is atm. Nobody has done end game except Alpha Testers. The good news is. By the time your level 50 and ready to tank the harder content, you will have 4 roles!!! ( think quad spec, like WoWs duel spec) In one of the podcasts the dungon/raid dev said they are not going to design any bosses around the :need" for a particular tank spec. Any tank being played by a skilled player should be able to do the job with any tank soul! However, players will come up with some optimal specs I'm sure. Like there are avoidance tanks.. block heavy tanks. magic resisting tanks etc. but One player could, and probably will, have a few tank builds ready to go.

I think Lyon means 4 Roles (which are the Alt Specs)

This post on Rifts official forums kinda cleared things up for me a little. I really only played EQ 1, so this game is sorta alien to me. I did try EQ2 briefly which is kinda like this for boxxing.....?

Still trying to decide if I will go with a tank that can AoE or a true main tank. AoE will really help me in keeping mobs off my support box.....I assume. If so, I think that is important. I almost only wipe on EQ1 because of multiple mobs and my tanks inability to keep them off the support. But that comes at the cost of less AC, hitpoints.....I don't even know what they call it in this game lol, but it comes at the cost of making the tank less meaty.

Think I have my mind made up for healer and will go Sent/Puri/Warden. I have zero experience playing anything but a warrior class to lvl15ish and a RANGER/blade dancer/assasin to lvl20, but from reading sounds like Sent/Puri/Warden is the most heavy healer you can have.

Probably be low on DPS, so may be going with a third box as well.....which I am not sure I want to do because I kinda wanted to keep things simple and low key. If I go with a third class, guess it'll be a DPS caster type although I much perfer melee DPS. I just don't see how I can box a rogue class with a tank and healer smoothly.

Not use to or even like how many people box WoW. Just not into the multiple of the same class. Probably because I don't like PVP, so the burst DPS of such a set-up means little to me. Anyone boxxed Rift using all different classes? Running a tank as main with a melee DPS on follow, when you go to attack, will the DPS class be set to fight without repositioning?

Combat is more like EQ2 than EQ1, that's for sure. It's even more forgiving than EQ2 (which I thought had the best combat of any MMO), maybe a little too forgiving. In Rift, your Cleric souls can wear Chain, 2nd in 'AC' to Plate, so they are a good deal hardier than clerics in EQ.

You can pick up to 3 souls. You could choose one of those to be a Soul with some low level AE damaging abilities. You get 1 Soul Point / Level, and on level multiples of 3, you get an extra Soul Point. A particular Soul's level cannot be greater than your own, so you will be forced to use these extra Soul Points in your second or third pick Soul.

This way, you can level up towards a single target meat shield, while picking up useful low level abilities from another soul (like AE Threat Abilities).

Lots of ways to customize. Have fun!
