Thread: Got bonus

Time for an upgrade?? Yes I know Falcon is spendy, but I don't enjoy building computers or dealing with issues. I'd rather just send it in for major problems or call tech support.

Anyways here is the setup, GFx card is not set in stone and yes they will OC the CPU. Thoughts?

    Holy shit dude....

I must be missing something, but where is all of that cost going?

EDIT: Priced out, that's about $2000 in parts using Newegg. That excludes a super fancy case and that water cooling.

I could build the exact same thing for 1/2 the cost or less.

If you have money to blow, go for it. Sounds awesome. If not, I'd build it myself.

    +1 for that.

Just pay someone locally a few hundred dollars to build it for you?

I agree with the start of your post to just get one from a manufacturer that has a nice warranty and support, but for 3800 is a bit excessive. Also for that cash you should not be spending any coin for shipping. It should be hand delivered by your supermodel of choice.

I recommend you build the same computer from at least 3 different places, compare prices, and do some searching for coupon codes that can cut some serious $$ from that bill.

I spent $300 less than this when I set my multi-boxing system up and that was 5 computers with glass from Dell.

    1. I'm not interested in building
    2. Where will this person that builds my system be when I don't know WTF just happened and it doesn't start up?
    3. I like using one place for warranties and repairs.

Maybe if I were more interested in computers I would do it myself, but I find the whole process tiresome and not fulfilling.

I haven't settled on Falcon, but I don't want some fly by night operation that closes shop 2 days after taking my money. I bought a Vigor Gaming system last time and was extremely happy with it, however they disappeared overnight not too long ago. Any suggestions are welcome.

Ok what about this? It's maingear and I'm not too familiar with this company.

Sorry about the copy pasta, I'm on my phone browser.

Well great now I'm not so sure. I have read that C300 SSDs need TRIM or they lose performance drastically yet the Marvell controller on that Asus board does not issue the TRIM command. What?

I was also thinking of doing RAID 0 with C300s but now...

like everyone else, that price is out of this world lol.

also I am not sure you would even need to water cool a 2600k, just buy a great air cooler and overclock it
unless you are doing some "extreme benching", water cooling is not worth it these days for cpu's. Video cards are another story, but most of them can be cooled with air. I would go water cooling only if you want a silent running computer

as for the SSD question, doesn't the c300s have a native GC (garbage collection) on the drive firmware that performs the trim like functions? Also I am not sure if this has changed or it was a intel SSD limitation, but if you raid SSD's, don't you forfeit trim/GC because of the drives are in a raid?

Water cooling is free in the second setup. Also I didn't know that raid removes the ability to TRIM, so what do you do when your SSD performance drops?
