I generally go for very massive upgrades over the previous system.
And then keep them for three to four years, before the next upgrade.

And then have the current/new system to game on.
The second (previous system) for a web browser or miscellaneous computer.

And the third system, probably 6-8 years old...
Used to be passed along, but lately a bare-bones system for $250 has been superior.

Ironically, my roommate has a huge chain of handing down.
He does upgrades a lot more frequently.

So he upgrades his main system, say MB/Processor/Ram.
Moves that stuff to his second system.
And then moves from there to a friend's system (Mark).
Moves Mark's stuff to Mark's son's system (Kyle).
And with the last upgrade moves Kyle's stuff to another friends system (Jimmy).

They each kept their tower, power supply, hard drives, OS (had to reinstall Windows on a couple of them).
    Quite a juggling act.

Chris is the Vertex 3s that were just added to the configurator what you were talking about?

Looks like a really nice system. Congrats and I hope it gets there soon! You should be flying with five accounts.

You ARE playing five accounts, aren't you? This would be totally wasted on one.

Thats a lot of cash. I am looking at getting the vertex 3 ssd and upgrading to win 7. I have to get a new video card too. The new ATI 6990 is the fastest card on the market but it cost $700. I will probably go for a $350 card instead.

    $3,300? LoL ... well.

Anyway the SSD seems a good choice (229 at newegg) but keep in mind that random reads of tiny files is most important for WoW (I was looking at the files accesses and there are a lot of tiny /under 16K/ reads)

Although its dead last in this catagory there is no where near 20,000 i/os a second in wow, probably not even 5000 so ummm ....

I would not trust a $60 850 watt power supply but maybe prices have fallen since I last looked.

Pinotnoir Here is the best $300 video card for wow:

While it is no doubt a nice system, I would urge people who can hold out for the time being to wait for LGA 2011 later this year.
Unless AMD brings something to the table, I have a feeling Intel is going to be decimating benchmarks [and wallets] with LGA
2011. We'll hopefully be looking at 6 and 8 core 22nm processors at launch.
