So if you beat teams that are much lower MMR you get like 2 points for a win.
If you lose to a team that has lower MMR you lose like 20 points.
So it's all about the MMR. After every game look what MMR your opponents have and compare it with yours.
If you want to get higher faster you just have to play a lot of games so that you run into higher rated teams, but you have to beat them to actually go up.
How does that explain the 96 points the 1700 MMR team got against my 1300 team?

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
