memory/quad-core - can I make it faster?

I've been reading snippets of info to suggest I can increase my performance by assigning different cores to different instances of wow, I have a Q6600 Quad-core 2.4ghz, vista 64-bit

I can't find anything to tell me how to actually perform this core assignment, does anyone know about this?

Also if running 5 instances of wow, might it be worth going from 4gb-6gb?

If you're using Keyclone, you can use it to assign processor affinity. To do it manually, open Task Manager (right-click the taskbar and select it from the menu). Select the Processes tab. Highlight the application you want (WoW.exe) and right-click on it. One of the options is "Set Affinity..." and selecting it will provide you with a box that lets you select an available CPU via checkboxes.

As for memory, separate WoW instances take up around 240MB on my quad core system with 2GB memory, or just under 1GB total. If you are running 4GB already, I doubt that you'll see any performance boost from increasing it to 6GB.

Wow ram usage has many variables. For instance my main window sometimes uses up to 700mb of ram by itself. How much ram do your current instances of wow use?

I use a program called SMP Seesaw Pro (http://www.mlin.net/SMPSeesaw.shtml). It allows you to setup which cpu for each program pretty easily and its freeware.

Another way to assign cpu affinity to each instance of Warcraft is to edit your config.wtf. This solution only works if you run each instance of Warcraft from a separate directory as you only have one config.wtf in the WoW directory (meaning that if you run multiple copies of WoW from the same directory, they will all have the same cpu affinity using the config.wtf variable).

For what it's worth, I upgraded from 2GB to 4GB on my 32-bit Windows XP machine (quad core) and it made a HUGE difference in Shattrath. I run 4 wow windows and I no longer have to pause as I run around the city to wait for the other windows to "catch up".

overclock your processor to as far as you can get to still have a 1:1 ratio with your ram. Just have good cooling!
