I have a i7 - 920 CPU @ 2.7 MHZ
12 gigs ram
580 GTX Video card
256 gig SSD Corsair drive
I get 60 fps in stormwind. When I had a HD5870 video card, I was getting like 20 FPS in stormwind.

So that's my problem. I'm sporting 2 4870x2 and lately the frame loss has been pissing me off. I have a 920 @ 3.6 Ghz and 12 GB RAM. I was considering upgrading the whole rig. I don't like to spend money on piece meal upgrades. I usually wait for a new chipset and gpu worth upgrading to.... Maybe I should try a new GPU
Edit: I'm pretty new to changing gpus from ATI to nVidia. Is it as simple as install new card and driver or is it more complicated than that? I'm looking to do SLI 580s

I have a 4850x2 ati and I get lag in high traffic areas with the same processor and ram you have. Our problem is the gpu. I think I will update to a new 6000 series ati. Call me crazy but I like ATI better than nvidia. Every nvidia card I have had in the past had some issues. Plus I think the colors look better with ati.

Hope you are going to be running other games instead of just WoW if you are serious about setting up SLI. WoW doesn't benefit from SLi, actually there is a decrease in performance. This is also true with some other games as well. Don't remember for certain where I read this information, but more than likely it was from anandtech.com
Don't get me wrong, its amazing for games that gain from having it...but a brutal waste of money if just using for WoW (especially the gtx 580 cards!).
PS: I've had issues in the past with ATI drivers, I'm putting my faith into nvidia this time around. Best of luck with whichever route you decide to take!
Having just upgraded from 4gb of ram to 8gb, i can tell you that alone will make a huge difference. Four is not enough anymore for five instances of wow.
