From what I could tell from their podcast they simply don't like to say anything they may need to change their mind on later. They would rather wait until they can give a definitive answer that can be relied on to stay that way.

They don't have to ban anyone... just make all of the quests collection quests and make phased zones so you can see anyone not on the exact same quest and make them use specialty vehicle/mounts and have to hunt for quest items in your bags. I general make it as un-group friendly as you possibly can... wait.. that's Blizzards policy.

Honestly, I think the prevalence of the programmable logitech keyboards is one of the main reasons their hand is forced to allow for all forms of multiboxing both software and hardware. To disallow software multiboxing would mean they'd have to ban another 10-20% (??) of their population who commonly use and will not stop using logitech multi keystrokes which are also software.

Are you insinuating that this is a bad strategy on their part?

They have not decided whether the answer is yes, multiboxing is fine, or no multiboxing is not good.

Which essentially tells boxers to skip the game initially, if you require boxing to play a game. There is no point in purchasing five copies, unless they are fully refundable... which probably won't be the case.

I would think the best strategy would be to allow boxing.
But set the game up, so there is enough going on that those who want to box get a large advantage over a single player, which makes it worthwhile to box.
But that five different players will usually be stronger, so boxers don't automatically dominate all facets of the game.

Yes, unequivocally. If there is no definitive answer when it launches, will YOU go spend $250+ on 5 accounts and subscriptions knowing full well that they might ban it? I would venture that most boxers wouldn't take this bet. If, however, they say it's allowed... You'll probably get a decent amount of boxers who'll give it a go.

This beta6 they made mobs tougher. They hit harder and have more HPs. I will not play the game solo. If they ban multiboxing, then I will not be playing it. And it will piss me off ( i paid for two CEs lol ), its almost like they don't want to say anything in hopes they will get more sales, then ban it later lol.. that will suck.

And Catamer, all MMOs have collection quests now.. its a price we pay for having the power of 5! the good news is, there was only one quest from lvl1-18 that i completed that was a kill x mobs and collect x items off the dead mob type, that did not drop the item for everyone in the group. all the many other kill+collect quest drop the item for everyone in the group. There are some "click the item on the ground types, a few of those give credit to everyone when one person clicks it ,and some each member of the group has to loot it separately. But overall, the collections quest in Rift are way more multibox friendly then any other MMO i have boxed, EQ2 being a close second.

I guess we'll disagree. I don't expect a company with a new game coming out to be able to guess at all the "stacking" issues that boxers routinely take advantage of. So while they might be on board with it in concept, the business realities might force them to ban it if it would take too much engineering effort to balance for it.

You will note, of course, that Blizzard did not come out with a blue post in support of boxing until what, 2007? Almost 3 years after release?
