Default Let's talk PC cases for a moment please.

I was cleaning out my PC closet, and realized, I had 5 old K7-K8 939 motherboards, and processors that still work fine , and figured I'd fix them up some, use one or two as extra systems, and give the rest to my Niece and nephews school . ( it is one of those old style Country schools that If pressured, I would swear uses an Abacus to teach these kids.

I have plenty of old Memory, and AGP cards, but my only hesitation is a good sturdy case and Powersupply, that is cheap, but won't fail after two weeks.

I see plenty of them on Newegg, but it's been years since I've bought a new case, as I have this huge old Full tower, that I just throw in a new PS every few years, and maybe a MB.

Do you guys have any suggestions here, maybe something you have used to give the kids at home their own Cheap PC?

    Antec Three Hundred

I own(ed) this case before upgrading to my monster and it was great. Also, if 2,219 people [at the time of this post] took the
time to comment about it, then it might be worth something.

    Haha, thanks.

They also sell that case at Microcenter if you happen to live by one, it's where I got mine just 2 months ago.

Sadly I don't. In fact the nearest PC place that was even close to me, (IE> within an hours drive) was the old PC Club that shut down a few years back. Man I miss them also.

While I have ya, Do you think a decent 400 watt PS would be ok for the MB, a single HD / DVD reader, and an old Radeon 1600 Pro vid card?

If not I can shop around some more.

I use SeaSonic PSUs (never had one fail in the last 6 years I've been using 'em; can't say that for coolermaster, antec or OCZ PSUs that have all had at least one failure) which are pretty cheap compared to name brand rebranded crap.

As for cases, the two I've used for the last 3 PCs have been very nice. If you want something very quiet, the Antec Solo Quiet Case has been great at my Mother's place. They run about 70-100 bucks depending on sale days. http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/...ntec_solo.html

The last two I built here at the house haven't been as quiet but they are 90% tool-free installs and are only about $49. I like 'em a lot. CoolerMaster Centurion 5. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068

If you go with a regular case, ignore whether they have fans. The shitty fans that come in any of the stock cases (even the "uber" cases) all suck balls, are loud and usually have crappy bearings or even plastic/teflon shims. Just grab a Scythe S-Flex 120mm fan to put in there, plug it into the mobo's 3-pin header (assuming yours has those) and call it a day.

Again, not the rock-bottom cheapest solution but it's not enough extra to quibble over, IMO. You pay a little bit more and get a LOT better quality.

If you're running a single HDD, single ODD and low-end graphics card, a 350-400w PSU should be fine (as long as you don't buy the Ching-Hai Wong's Beautiful Sunrise $29.99 model lol).

    LOL @ the Ching-hai comment.

Yeah, I agree, I'd rather pay just a bit more for the PS then not, as they are the one thing to be most cautious with.

I will look at the Seasonic then.
    Thanks to you also Buddy.

Edit to add: I do have a huge amount of Fans also, as I bought out a place recently that had a few cases of them. 80 mm and 140 MM to be exact.

As Ugh said, Seasonic is a damn good name. They've been in the PSU business for 30+ years. With this last (half) build I
did I actually went with a Corsair AX series [80+ Gold] PSU since it got very sexy results over at jonnyguru.com. Corsair
has made quite a name for themselves these past few years while making PSU's and I figured I would try this one out.
