    Default How to fix "run-aways"

I'm finding that I am getting more "run-aways" than I'd like with my setup and I'm not sure how to fix it. Any advice would be appreciated, here's how I'm configured:

1 Laptop - This machine runs my main

1 Desktop - This machine runs my 2 alts

Both are running Synergy and Keyclone (not sure if the problem is Keyclone or Synergy but I think it's keyclone )

My method to stop my alts from following (which results in run aways sometimes) is to jump with my spacebar with my main character. On my alts I have the spacebar mapped to strafe right and strafe left respectively. When things work (98% of the time), it's great. My alts stop, separate and rain down destruction upon my foes. When things don't work, I usually end up rezzing at least 1 of my alts, if not both because they ran off in different directions, straight into waiting mobs.

The weird thing is, they don't always run in different directions, sometimes they *both* run straight forward so I'm not sure which key is getting stuck. If it were the strafe keys getting stuck, they'd run in opposite directions every time they ran away.

Fixing it quickly is also a problem. Sometimes pressing forward on the alt (moving my mouse to their window) will stop them from running, other times it just stops them as the key is pressed, but once the key is released, they start running again. Sometimes pressing space or back stops them.

It seems somewhat random what starts them running and what stops them from running.

I have the following keys on my keyclone do-not-pass list:

    A, S, D, W, [ENTER], [NUM LOCK], M, /, Q, E

The reason why your characters are running away is because your using (anykey + WASD)
    Add
    shift+a
    shift+s
    shift+d
    shift+w

    Alt+a
    Alt+w
    Alt+s
    Alt+d

    Maybe ctrl also.

For some reason when doing that is still sends the Movement keys to all characters so thats why they run away.

shift+WASD are still movement keys... and as such, will get passed as shift+WASD... but the up event can get lost, if you release the shift before the WASD... since WASD alone is not passed.

solution? you could mouse drive... and not put movement keys on your DNP...

    or add:

    NUMLOCK
    WASD,
    shift+WASD

    at a minimum

Hrmm, but I'm not pressing shift at all.

I do however do a lot of run/strafing with my main (pressing Q+W for instance). Since all of those keys are already on the do-not-pass list, I didn't think to add "Q+W" and "W+E" as well, but I will along with all the SHIFT/ALT variants mentioned above and see how it goes.

Anykey + WASD messing it all up. Start adding the combos to DNP

Default do not pass vs whitelist

Please let me know if this has been covered elsewhere, but I'm a little confused about when to use do not pass, and when to use whitelist? I'm just a newbie getting started with all of this, but from what I understood of this option, isn't it easier to just pass what you want with the whitelist, instead of trying to pass all the possible combinations of things you don't want, and possibly miss something?

I think I read in a sticky where the individual explained he would rather use do not pass so he could keep control if he had to? Can someone please exlain when or why to use one or the other?

    I'm having a similar problem:

    - main runs ahead with clone following

    - action happens (for example turning, stopping and running again, ...)

    - clone starts to drift of (follow broken)

I know that after every fight I have to make the clone follow again (follow macro) but I find it annoying that the clone even runs of when simply running around.

And tbh I only started with Keyclone today, so don't know a thing about list this or that (just read the basic tutorial ;-) )

[edit]: just had some thoughts about it (and some more testing) and I think I have a solution (hopefully). Keyclone clones every keypress to the second char, so when following and you press any directional key it breaks follow just like it would when one char is following someone and presses a directional key (hope that made sense). So could a solution be to put the movement keys in the do not pass list?

    Just a thought I had btw ;-)

yes... that is why the DNP was created, to avoid those types of situations.

as for white-list over DNP... that would be a personal choice

So this is weird, I added all the SHIFT/CTRL/ALT combos of all my moves keys to the do not pass list, and now my run-aways end up running in circles instead of "away". An improvement on behavior but still sub optimal.

Any other ideas or should I just go with the white list instead since it's hard to nail down what is actually causing my run-aways?

This bug is the most annoying bug ever. It comes up at least once per instance run I do and always results in a wipe.

Here is what happens. I line up all my guys, do an /assist, then start casting.

BOOM out of nowhere some of my guys start running circles left, some start running in circles straight ahead, some to the right. They seem to run in random directions, but they won't stop running until their dead.

Keyclone is set to not pass WASD with shift/alt/ctrl or any combinations, yet this still happens. Also, autorun key is not passed, either.

Any idea on how to fix this? This is becoming dire for me.

NOTE: When I dual boxed, this bug was rare. When I 3boxed, it came up a lil more often. When I 4 boxed it was almost every instance. When I 5box, it happens at least ONCE per instance.
