    Default 4 priests or pallys

I will be able to RAF gift 4 toons soon, already have teams of 4x shams, druids, locks, mages being boosted/tanked by a 80 lock. all very fun teams to play.

Is it a no-brainer to get the pallys and not the priests?

It's impossible to say without more information (what you want to do with them), but generally, of course not. The best group is the group you like playing. Furthermore, both of the groups have potential, albeit in difference ways.

Very few things are ever a "no-brainer"
No matter where you go, there you are.

both will work in PvE, though neither will accel at clearing heroics. i enjoy playing my 4 pally DK team but in my early days of boxing i played priests and truly had a blast with them. they're a much less common team - they've lost some luster with repeated nerfs to the group healing of shadow (it used to be phenominally OP and cool as hell) but you could effectively play them all healing spec and still do efficient and good damage now that cata buffed the hell out of healer damage. i'd say if you're thinking about doing priests then do it, you'll have more fun knowning you're playing a group that is yet to be the FOTM.

I'd say Pallies over Priests, but that Priests are worth having.

Pallies get you tanks, dps and heals.
Priests get you dps and heals.
That's the reason for Pallies over the Priests.

Both can work, as DPS in their Healer spec.
    But neither is optimal.

I really have had a blast with Disc Priests lately.
The whole healing via Smite, along with all the other Disc fun.
And PW: Shield is getting a massive boost on test, hopefully that goes live.

i guess what i should have mentioned is that i havnt really played both classes so was just wondering multiboxers liked specially about multiboxing pallys and priests.

    So far i like:
shamans - mass totems, chain heal, lightning, self res
locks - angry pets, insta-dots on the fly, summoning portals
mages - nukes nukes nukes, big nukes, insta nukes, aoe nukes
druids - insta-rejus on the fly, mass hots, brez for wipe recovery

    1. what do u like about 4-priests and 4-pallys teams? (levelling up, pre-85)

    2. what are they like to raid-heal (not tank heal) as a team? (at 85)
eg i raided wrath as a tree, hence i envisage raiding with 4 resto-druids as running around doing rejus, regrowths and swiftmends (carefully of course watching mana) and i think with shamans its totems, chain heals plus other mad heals (new class for me). i am guessing 4-priests will raid heal better than 4-pallys, which will be more complicated as u have to watch Holy Power?

During RAF, I ran a 5x (Disc) Priest team.
And have leveled them to 75th.
    What I like...

Glyphed/Talented Smite auto heals the most hurt unit within range of the unit hit by Smite, which gets you a decent amount of healing just through DPS.

PW: Shield prevents a lot of damage, and Renew x5 is an instant heal for a fair bit of health.

I usually use Penance as an extra attack, but as a twitch heal it lets you play reactionary more so then any other healing spec. Two ticks of penance is superior healing to Greater Healing and its very mana efficient (hitting instantly and then two additional ticks). Penance does break follow, which is the one detraction.

Pain Suppression reduces damage to half, and you can round-robin this effect.

Disc is extremely mana efficient, especially on instant casts. It gets you absorb effects and damage reduction. Pretty fun to play.

I've never boxed a group of Paladins.

As a single Pally, you have an easy one-button spam tank that tanks very effectively. You are based off of mana, which is the equivalent of full runic power or rage, at the start of every fight. The class is very effective for single targets or AoE pulls. It benefits from most of the caster type buffs.

I've been tempted to level 5x Holy Pallies, for the Shock'adin style of play. Prot pallies would be a decent team, in that they would be very hard to kill, and 5x Word of Glory would not be an insignificant amount of healing.

I'd look at both classes as capable of leveling with 4x or 5x, but much better in mixed groups.

Four Disc Priests with any tank type, would be a very hard to kill group. You could run 2x/3x with the tank and another class for better loot distribution or buff/debuffs or crowd control options. Two disc priests, who concentrated on DPS, but did shield the group and use Holy Nova spam, and pain suppression on round-robin would likely keep a tank up as well as a dedicated healer. Three would make for very easy mode play.

People have had success with five Pally teams, as they can tank, heal and dps. I've personally gone with Pally healers or Pally tanks in the past. In each case, 1x Pally with whatever.

    Priests have excellent AoE heals.
Not sure how they would be boxed, for raid healing, but for group healing they are superb.

Pallies are excellent at single target healing, and with Beacon that equates to keeping two targets alive. You have talents where you keep yourself alive too, when you heal another.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
    Diablo III: 4x Crusader & 4x Wizard.

As others have said, it depends on what youre going to do with them. If you have five accounts and dont already have tanks on them i would do the paladins. If you already have tanks, i would do the priests.

As Ualaa said, paladins are very easy to tank with.

I like priests better than any other healer. I dont like using healers that dont have HoTs. Classes can change from patch to patch but what says 'healer' more than Priest?

since he'll be boosting thru gifted levels from 1-60 he'll lose out on most of the fun that is leveling a group of either class, But from a leveling standpoint after that i can give my two cents on pallys.... omg fun

the new holy is good, and can heal very well either tanks or raid, and priests are fun too, if you have time on RAF i'd say gift up a group of priests and then level up pallys regular style with the rest of your raf time. Leveling 4 pallys or 5 is just plain fun

Good point. If youve never played paladin you should level them to learn how they work.

If you're boosting your RAF teams you're losing half the fun!
