Anyone know if Macbook Pros are any good for playing WoW? I've decided to try one out... Also anyone know when they are being refreshed? I hear it's midsummer but thats from an unreliable source (friend).

I have one of the 2nd generation unibody macbook pros 15". I can 5 box on it in a pinch but i have to have all the settings down on all clients. For single boxing i can have most of the settings on good to high and wow runs fine. the newer models with the i7 would probably be way better than mine though.
If you dual boot into windows you could probably run wow or multi box much better too.
Not planning to box, just one wow. =)
Any ideas on when the new ones are coming out?
this page has good historical data and info regarding past updates, but i don't know for sure about when a new update will occur.

The big question is.... Why....

I use a little 13inch MacBook Pro for single-boxing while on the road, works just with a few graphics settings tweaked.
I was in the same boat, and being a Windows fanboi I decided that I should try both sides before I continued arguing with Apple fanbois.
*The hardware is beautiful, strong, sleek and surprisingly robust (like the screen hinges)
*It's missing some ports, the 2 USB ports are too close together.
*OSX is horrible, I still can't understand what people like about it, it's not user friendly, and it can take hours to figure out simple things like connecting to network shares.
*Safari on OSX however is probably my favorite browsing experience so far.
*Steam games are OK, not great, but OK (runs twice as good if you dual boot into windows)
*WoW is an interesting ones, I get mixed performance, but I do like the extra features in the OSX version like the built in *video recording (why isn't this in the Windows one yet?)
*The key difference however is that the OSX version of WoW is running in OpenGL whereas Windows uses DirectX.
*What's the difference you ask? Graphics and performance, there is no comparison. Sure it's not horrible to look at, but its no where near as sharp, and it doesn't have the same polish that the Windows version does.
However I try to be as non-biased as possible, so don't take my word for any of this, the best thing you can do is try it yourself, I don't regret my purchase, but I don't feel the need to upgrade in the near future.![]()
Interesting, thanks for the input!
