Default Upgrading from N52 to G13

I've been using a Belkin Nostromo N52 for over six years. It sits so perfectly and unobtrusively on my desk. But the poor lil sucker is dying. The D-Pad which I have set up for strafing, auto-run and backing up has become erratic. I've been looking at the Logitech G13 for some time but, it seems enormous. There are no stores locally that carry it so I can't get a good look at it. Surely, one of you has made the switch. Were you just overwhelmed by the footprint of the thing? I could just get another N52 from EBay but new tech is so tempting.

Just to let you know also, Razer has a new Nostromo out now, that runs great with Win 7.

Which is really funny , cause after almost a year, I plugged in my N52te and it worked like no ones business. <facepalm> Never could get it going on win 7 until last night.

back to your point, I'm curious also about the G13, as many times I'll sit back in my recliner and rest the N52te on my lap or belly, and run the mouse on a book. would this be possible with the G13?

obviously depends on your belly, i've seen americans where a whole G15 keyboard + mouse & pad would fit on
that aside, I often sit back and have my G13 on my left upper leg (don't know exact english description, but i guess what you mean). it's very stable and took 20 minutes to get used to. i do that while mining or so and while i meanwhile watch a movie

i think you'll be surprised how naturally a G13 would feel, unless you are a tiny little human being with small female hands

I have both the N52te and the G13. Let me tell you unless you have huge hands the G13 takes a lot of getting used to. I only use it to bind the "g" keys to it for things I use outside of normal play like switching keymaps, menus, etc... The N52te is so much more friendly as far as fitting a normal hand and the layout is easier to get used to. Also the joystick thumb pad on the G13 is not great. I think there are some items better on the G13 but they tend to be more in the back end software and also visually like the back lighting. But for me its more important for buttons to be well placed and things to just work. I would go N52te any day.

Just cant beat the nostromo n52.

I use macaroon to setup 2 rows of 5 buttons and an attached row of 4 so it lays out on the screen exactly like it is under my hand. i use the red thumb button to switch to my second page of buttons on my action bar on depress and switch back to page 1 on release. 28 buttons aligned on screen to my fingers on my left hand. It also makes learning new layouts so much faster.

I've have two backups sitting on the shelf I got from ebay i love it so much.

(i use "[" and "]" for button 13 and 14) and yes there is a button 15 under the thumb I just dont use because most of the time I'm on the d-pad for movement.

I also use Macaroon for my N52 but I just set up one bar w 3 rows of 5 buttons. I use the extra button as a clicker for whatever.
It just makes it a little easier in setup to have them all on one bar. I use Button 15 on the N52 for jumping. It's very easy to jump obstacles by just sliding my thumb down a bit on the D-Pad. I had the red button set up to "look behind" but mine is hard to press.
    I use the wheel on the N52 to switch modes. Forward=Blue, Back=Green, Press=Red, Center=Normal.
