    Default next expansion?

Rumors have it that the next expansion will be Emerald Dream/Nightmare or Return of the Burning Legion. Just check wowwiki and theres tons of ideas for new expansions and races. So what are your thoughts/wishes/ideas for what the next expansion/class/hero class will be? Just imagine 5 boxing Pandaren or Demon Hunters!

There was a post on... Allakazam? From a few years back (prior to TBC release) where someone posted what he believed where documents showing Blizzard's planning for WoW. It was pretty accurate all the way through to Cataclysm if I remember correctly, including level ranges and zone names. I should try to find that link and see if they had anything after cata. I think that they showed the plans all the way through level 100 or something like that.

I'd be pretty happy with something similar to LK/Cataclysm- huge zones with an overall theme, although I really would like it if they dropped the single-player mentality. Because honestly, when that NPC hails me as the hero who saved Azeroth, and I'm standing right next to Stanley the Super Decorated Kingslayer, I know that the NPC is feeding Stan the same bullshit line that he's feeding me. Why not just make it so the game treats you like part of a larger group effort, instead of hailing you as the go-to guy whenever Shecky the God of Casinos needs his omnipotent ass pulled out of the fire? They keep telling me that I'm the guy who saved the world, even though I need to join four, nine, or twenty-four other people in order to kill the dragon who plans to send the universe straight to hell.

Errr... sorry for the rant. I really like Cata so far, but being treated like Neo every step of the way in an MMORPG is annoying.

    ^This.

Tonuss, I really really like you.

As for the subject. A friend of mine is a Blizz emp. Hes stated that Blizzard is done with WoW to the extent of expansions of the game to get bigger. However, he did say, that Cataclyzm is the first of 4 expansions, which will essentially revamp each of the older expansions. Sort of like a snake eating his own tail. With the foundation already laid out, and the pattern already determined, its easy to update, slap a new name on it, tweak the game just enough so that people will want to relearn stuff, and bingo... they have a new expansion just about ready to counter any new competition that comes out.

Direct from his own emails to me, Blizz released expansions to counter the launch of Age of Conan, Aion, and this latest one was to counter StarWars ToR, but Bioware has pushed that launch out... Blizzard was already too far in, and had to release. But they arent done yet. Several planned instances and Raids arent open yet. I would put lots of money to wager that will roll out when bioware is ready to launch StarWars.....its just good business.

Ive played WoW since Vanilla Beta. I see the revamped Vanilla (Cata). I love it. It brought me back to the game. Well played Blizzard.

Im sure those individuals who started when TBC came out, will be back in full force, when that old expansion is revamped... and so on and so on.

    RAGNAROS IS BACK! HELLS YA!

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

@apps Im very interested to see how much of this holds true. If Cata is the first of 4 revamp expansions then the future ones are TBC 2.0, Wrath 2.0 and then what? Vanilla 3.0? Meaning the list from years ago off by one. Its missing Wrath 2.0 (Plane Set=Vanilla 3.0(Emerald?) and Legion Set=TBC 2.0) They have already hinted at revamping outland and northrend due to them being outdated. I personaly would rather see wow expand to include the other side of azeroth and/or take us to a new planet.

Yes, I believe that is exactly correct.

A new planet... now theres an interesting idea. I dunno how well that plays into the Lore of the story but, who knows.. perhaps this is how World of Starcraft starts? lol

they are catering to the self-important kids-in-the-basement who comprise 99% of the population in WoW and stroking their egos as "God"

Yeah, power creep in story gets kind of annoying. But this should have been obvious back in BC when we started killing Illidan. The only real question is why the players haven't grabbed political power, seeing as how we take down even gods.

But i guess that is just the nature of the narrative: we always need a bigger gun, not more bodies.

I don't mind that storytelling device per se. It works pretty well in single player RPGs, although it can get stretched pretty thin there as well (hi Mass Effect, I'm looking at you). In a large scale cooperative game, being told that I'm the only one who can kill Dragon X is not very convincing when I have to stand in line and wait for three other people to kill it first. And then when it's my turn, I'm killing Dragon X while standing on the corpse of... Dragon X. And also Dragon X.

    Yeah, that just doesn't work.
