computer hardware security devices.

anyone know much about these? im looking for something for lcd monitors that id prefer to mount to a desk and something for towers that will hang from the desk. desk will be about 3 by 6 peice of oak. will be about 4 pcs and 3 19 inch lcds and a 24 inch lcd. no droors or anything under desk so plenty of space under and above.

i looked quickly online and most the stuff i saw was pretty cheesey looking and not quite what i want.

Yeah, I thought that was what he meant. But I don't get why you would want to cable lock 4 monitors to your desk. But hey if so there are plenty of "Kensington Lock" style vendors out there. Pick one and go to town.

i dont want someone to steal them is why i want them locked to the desk. i was asking mostly to see if anyone knew of some newer ideas or good vendors to buy from. but from what i can tell ya will be cable with brackets and lock type thing or alot of money.

I'm not to sure the specifics on your living arrangements, but most of the security devices I've seen that are cheaper then the equipment you are trying to protect are a joke.

Meet the disposable $10.00 36" bolt cutters (42" are available for $20.00), available from Harbor Freight and other fine proprietors of cheap, use-them-once and throw them away tools. Sometimes you can even buy the floor model.





Most of the security devices will only slow down a dedicated roommate (or thief) by seconds. Just talk to any University IT Department that has had problems with projectors and computers getting stolen out of classrooms.

There are other solutions.

I call my favorite way of solving problems like this, "Redefining the Problem." The problem isn't securing 4 computers and 4 monitors - the problem is replacing that equipment when it is stolen or damaged. The easy solution to that problem is to pick up a Renter's Insurance policy.

i actually know someone who uses a different type of plug for his monitor. all electronics he has he opens em up and changes the plugs around .

i asked him once why he did that with his laptop for school and he looked at me and said " if some SOb is going to steal my hard earned stuff that SOB better be ready for a shock of his life or a nice 8 lb brick ( laptop) .

he would modify the power adapters to all his stuff even his stereo in his room . if you took a basic psu cable and stuck in in it either wouldn't fit or blow the Psu of the device.

not sure if it was smart or stupid but i would suggest having a Electronic background before opening up anything to fool around with its device , not to mention voiding a warrenty on a brand new lcd.
