Default SSD question ... for new build

is there an advantage to installing 6 64 gig SSD's with one instance of game on each over one really large SSD to fit well over 180 megs of 6 copies of game instances?

im trying to decide between 6 small SSD drives for one copy of game each or one large SSD to fit them all ?

any pros and cons of each way ??

I think im going to have an SSD drive just for my OS as well
Not playing anything except Skyrim at the moment until Legion is released

Assuming, from your other thread, if you were going to convert from a hardware boxer to a software boxer using one machine,
what choice of software would you go with? If you chose ISBoxer I am 99.2584545% sure that you would need 1 SSD and 1
install [Only 99.2584545% because I don't play LOTRO and I may be wrong by .7415455%].

cant be done in lotro has to be separate install for each instance you wish to run on same machine

so i have to have 6 separate installs on same PC for LOTRO

ISBOXER os what ill be using btw .. already bought it but wont need for a month or so til i get this built

but it has nothing to do with isboxer being able to make it happen its a lotro programing thing apparently

so with that said i wonder which would be better 6 single small SSDs or one very large SSD for all 6 instances which may top 200 gigs soon

any pros or cons of each way

Negative on multiple installs, "-usetdm" seems to be the answer to that.

EDIT: Also perhaps the "-invoker" switch as well.

unfortunately u cannot use DX 11 or even 10 with that workaround your stuck with DX 9 and LOTRO has some really neat 10 and 11 stuff now ( at least that is the way i read it before )

and i want my main to be able to see lotro in all its awesomesuaceness , so does anyone that knows hardware well enough know if there is a need to run 6 installs on smaller SSDs or all 6 on one big SSD?

adavantages or disadavantes to each? or does not matter?

Is this official from Turbine or did you gather that from the video in the link? I'm just curious myself since I try to make
knowledgeable posts to help the users of this forum and I know very little about LOTRO. If you got that impression
from the video talking about DX9, that video was made before InnerSpace was DX11 capable.

I like to use multiple drives because I feel like there is still a cost in access time to fetch the files so if you have multiples then you can do those fetches simultaneously. To be honest though the access times with controllers etc may be so minimal that in reality it doesn't matter. One way or the other may not be noticeable.

The only time I have really seen it matter is if you are going to put the drives into a raid array. Tomshardware.com did an article recently about raiding older ssd drives vs a larger capacity newer drive that may help. The newer drive actually came out on top. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ance,2798.html

No.. that guide says DX9 because it's from before the DX11 support was added to Inner Space. The only difference for DX11 is that, currently, you need to be on the development build of Inner Space because the DX11 support has not been pushed to the live build. There is absolutely no difference between them as far as using multiple or single folders, and if you can run one in DX11 mode you might as well run them all in DX11 mode.

If you want to run DX11, follow the instructions here to switch to the dev build: http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=774
Then just switch the game to DirectX11 instead of DirectX9.

    DirectX10 is NOT currently supported.

Six (or 4 or 8) smaller in a Raid is obviously faster then one big one.

The same should hold true for 6 seperate. You have 6 times the controller chips, 6 times the data lines (although they all feed the same buss), 6 times the cache......

I can only see 6 small being faster then one big.

what about this beast compared to six smaller ones with way less speed

i think im going to order this beast ...

    OCZ IBIS 240 GB HSDL reads @ 740 MB/s and writes @ 720 MB/s

unless you think it would be noticable different to get six small ones running at slower speeds by far

    OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB x 6

do you think i would notice much difference either way considering the big one is way faster?
if not one would sure be a lot more handy and clean looking in a case
