Default if your boxing whole groups on one PC ... how much RAM are you rolling with

Are you happy with the graphics settings your able to achieve ?

can you go max settings on your main character ?

i was thinking of going 24 gigs of ram on a new build but I REALLY like the crucial ballistix tracers that have LEDs but max you can get is 12 gigs as they do not make 4 gig sticks

am i going to miss anything if i go with the cool flashing LED's

LOTRO is so much more intensive so sorta kinda worried 12 is not enough
Not playing anything except Skyrim at the moment until Legion is released

Sounds like you're just guessing at how much RAM LOTRO is really taking up. You need to open up your Task Manager and
look at how much each instance is taking up. Just because you cannot attain high FPS running 6 instances of a game does
not mean you necessarily need more RAM.

Yes, the ability to run 24GB of RAM if need be. Will you even be able to see the LEDs on the RAM?

no i know how much ram one instance usually runs on about 80% of max settings around 1.6 ram ive seen it on occasion go to 1.9 ...

but i do not have max settings running and am in process of gathering info on a new build for running max settings on main and 5 slaves at less

so lets say 2 at most ever per instance but more than likely 9 gigs of ram for 6 instances ) that puts me at 12 possible on occasion which i assume is not enough becuase i assume OS needs some too right?

so i guess ill have to go more than 12 to be safe ?

NOTE: i am not very talented in the computer department on knowing what all the numbers mean so any input is appreciated and yes they would look nice in my windowed lighted interior case heh but if i cant use them i cant use them

If you're pushing 1.9GB per instance you're pushing the limit of the game itself. As I understand it x86 applications cannot
use more than 2GB of RAM or else they crash. There are always exceptions though, but I would not believe that LOTRO
is an exception to this rule. However, if you're pushing 2GB per instance multiplied by 6 then the only safe route would be
to go for a full 24GB of RAM on an Intel system or the full 16GB of RAM on an AMD system.

kinda what i was thinking ... ive only saw 1.9 on very rare occasions 1.3-1.5 is the norm which is why i said mostly would just be around 9 gigs of ram running 6 instances ... i guess ill give up the pretty led lights heh to be safe and future proff for awhile

is there really any advantage to buying the matched 24 gig sets or can i open my options up to two 12 gig 3 x 4 sets as well ?

Keep in mind that windows may not use all of your ram even if you have tons of it. It likes to put things in its cache (swap file). By default I believe it creates the swap file as 1.5x your amount of ram. So even if you have 12GB worth of programs running it may put most of it in ram and put some of it in its cache (prob why you saw it using 9GB ). I think the only way to force it to use all ram is to disable the swap file but most people suggest not doing that since it can cause issues. With 24GB though you may not encounter any issues.

Also, If you do get the 24GB of ram make sure to check the motherboard manufacturer's website to make sure that it is compatible with whatever ram you get. That may actually limit what specific kits you can buy. I had an issue with mine where I could put in 3 sticks of ram with no problems but had lots of issues when I fully populated all 6. I ended up having to get a different pair of kits that were compatible based on the vendor list for the motherboard. Not sure if this will be an issue for you but figured I would mention it in case it is.

I'm really doubting that its more then 600K per client, I mean what is actually being stored in all that ram? Be nice if it was textures but I really doubt they gonna set aside 1.5G per client just for textures even if you have it. BUT post on the LotR official tech forum and ask them, if they say you get better performace if you have the full 2G per client then ya 24G is what you want.

Otherwise I would think 12G is sufficient.

im gonna go with 12 gigs to start to see if OS and all the clients play nice at 12 before i spend more for 24

not sure what it is about lotro but textures are indeed very nice eye candy at full settings /shrug but i never remember seeing it below 1 gig for an instance /... albeit i dont look much

Might consider 3 X 4G chips so you can use them if you change your mind and want 24 down the road.
