Laptop temperature is 90°C +

Hello I used to multibox alot on my pc (4 wow's) but never really showed my face here but I decided to join the community.

Now recently I bought a HP laptop (dv7 4085-eb) and when I am playing wow (4 chars) my CPU has a temperature between 90 and 95 degrees.

On my pc where I used to multibox (quad core, 4 gig ram and geforce 9600) I never got a high temperature.

I know laptops don't have a good air circulation but isn't 90 degrees dangerly high? Contacted HP support and they said it is quite normal for a laptop but they did advise me a cooling pad .
When my laptop is not being stressed the temperature drops to 60°C. When playing a movie it is at around 70°C

Spec's from the laptop:
- ATI mobility radeon 5650 HD
- Intel I7 Q780 @1.60GHz (runs at 2.7 GHz with intel turbo boost)
- 6 gig ddr3

Any tips on how I could lower the temperature? The fan seems to be running always and when my temperature is 90°C it is making a lot of sound.

Overall I am quite happy with the laptop but in the beginning I had some problems with the operating system being in conflict with the hp software so I removed the operating system and replaced it with windows 7 ultimate.

I have boxed mainly on laptops and played wow on laptops before that. Anything that stresses out the GPU will tend to make it run close to 100degC so that's pretty normal. On different models I have opened them and lapped the GPU cooler and applied arctic silver, but at most this makes 3-5deg difference.

Get a laptop cooler pad type. Don't expect it to make a big difference but it will do 2 things.
1. keep your testicles (apologies if you are female) a safe distance away from your boiling hot laptop.
2. keep the airflow under your laptop good. A lot of laptop vents are actually under the unit and the little feet on the corners are designed to give enough clearance for air to flow to them.

Other than that, expect the unit to run hot but don't worry because laptop components are designed to tolerate it.

Well I'm glad that you are stating that the high temperature shouldn't damage the hardware and I will never game with my laptop on my lap as the case is to hot anyway .

Get a swamp cooler. blow directly onto laptop.

Those are some dangerously hot temps. I freak if I go 60+ o_O

just do not put that in your lap when playing O_o

also if you feel dangerous, you can take apart the laptop and spray some compressed air onto the parts to free up any dust, just make sure you use the can version and try not to spray in one place for an extended period or you may end up breaking something off.
