Am I being stupid keeping my guild as "me" only?

I left wow a while ago, and came recently back as a 5-boxer - still under RAF etc, and haven't really built up too many friendships yet (figured I'd do that when I hit 85, etc). Most of my real life friends have moved beyond WoW and not too many people on here that I had on my friends list still play.

I liked the idea of just running my own guild, getting my own exp, etc - until I saw the RAID achievements.

I have a long way to go, but assuming I want to do end-game raiding with my 5-man - should I just seek out another guild now before it's too late? Sure, maybe one day I might 10-man... MAYBE... but... even if I make friends and PUG with other guilds, etc, I guess I can never get this achievement?

I know instance stuff is 4/5 members, but I have to assume that the raid Achievements are like 7/10 and 18/25 or something crazy.

Thoughts?

It probably doesn't matter... I often think TOO far in the future... I'm only level 30's with my first 5-team....

Well, sure the raid achievements will require raiding.

if you have your 5 guys in a guild of their own and grind out heroics together, they will earn guild xp and the guild will level just fine on its own time.

You're not crazy
My wife and I are doing the same thing, since the max amount of guild exp can be gained per day is 6.2 mil exp from questing or boss kills, which isn't much from 70s on. I find that if I quest minimally on my druid team x5, i can reach the daily cap in about 45min.

No amount of drama is worth my time. I've had more than enough of busting my hump to "better the guild" only to end up watching people flame out about the world's dumbest crap over the years. A few more achievements isn't worth all the moderating, ego-stroking and whining that comes with people who I can't force to sleep on the couch.

I think 'stay the course' is the theme for those of us running solo guilds. Do things every day to gain guild progress and we shall reap decent rewards. We may not get the elite rewards, but I will be happy with what I get. The level 2 reward of +5% exp/quest gain is cool in my book. It is like another boa without spending justice points.

Yup...was looking through this last night and several guild achievements will be extremely difficult/impossible 'alone'.

The final (8th) guild bank slot requires... hmm Stay Classy -- an 85 of each class in each race (46 85s someone said)
Sort of expecting a new market of 'Hi, I'm a <rare-class-race combo>, will join your guild for 2000g....'

I mean, I really may like Worgen, but I don't personally relish the idea of making an 85 of each of the eight classes Worgen can be....

The "Alar-killing" shadow version of Alar (Ah, 'Reins of the Dark Phoenix') requires Guild Glory of the Cataclysm Raider... the relevant numbers are 8 of 10 for 10-man and 20 of 25 for 25-man raids.... so either get really good at 10-boxing, 5-box and team up with another 5-boxer, or .... what, hire enough clued players to join your guild temporarily to get the thing done?


The raid levels will come easily enough, it's the more involved cases like these that willbe harder to get.

It just occured to me how much value guilds will have in the near future. You are no longer selling a guild for the value of bank tabs. An individual could be selling a guild loaded with perks and demand a very hefty price. Unsure how common this will be and I wouldn't want to be the first to test the market. Just some food for thought.

Some of the gold blogs have talked about this, the issue is the monetization of what ... 133 days of played or something similar with the current xp cap? This is much more than selling a engineering skill bank for 15k gold, this is the effort of grinding 133 days of instances for a few hours a day.

The possibility of having 'pugging guild members', people that have guildless alts that will join your guild, get some raid achievements for you and the gquit is more likely an economic viable thing. But this is likely crazy expensive, if people are laying down 45k gold for the shadowmourne loot consistently, I cannot imagine what this would cost.

But it sounds neat and people obviously server xfer and pay tons of gold for a few weeks to get a glory titles.

I am sure whole guild server xfers will also change this to some degree as well.

As you point out, HPAVC, it's 133 days of play - I cannot possibly imagine anyone selling guilds for (almost) any quantity and combination of gold or in-game items. I imagine a fully pimped out guild, with all ranks and achievements, would be sold for real money much like certain items in the past were.

Of course, selling a guild for real money would certainly violate the TOS, so anyone who bought it would very likely see their new prize go poof.

I say that if the raid achievements mean that much to you, then you probably want to join a raiding guild. My friends and I intend to spend most of our WOW time in unrated BGs and I doubt we'll even do most of the heroic group achievements. it's nice that when one of my characters hits the cap for exp or rep, I can hop on another. And as the guild levels up I can be a 5-man guild exp dynamo. But aside from the guild level perks, I am not interested in the rest, so having my own guild works just fine.
