This is more a function of the larger guild pooling size that of the goal sinks.

I don't raise money without a goal in mind. raising 60k so my 4 shaman could all get the mechano-hog was a feat, but I would never have worked that hard just to save for a rainy day lol.
The old "cap" was simply a database data type issue. Obviously they've changed this now :P
Rofl, the most I've ever held is 40k, and I spent every penny of that powerleveling alchemy and engineering on my new magelings, along with building all of them roffelcopters (you wouldn't believe how expensive khorium is, holy jeez).
I'm going into Cata with about 8-10k. I was having a minor panic attack thinking old world flying was 5k, but I just saw on mmo-c that it's 250g. So there's that. I'm just getting ready spreading professions out for leveling. This weekend I leveled a miner and herbalist, since I didn't have one on any of the toons I plan on leveling first. So, now I stand with 10 engineers, 14 alchemists, 1 tailor, 2 enchanters, and a miner and herbalist on the 3 teams I'll level first (possibly concurrently, and just take my time getting profs up as quick as possible). May level a BS on one, I don't know. I am going to focus more on gold making and PvP with this expansion.
Although, for a strictly PvE team, I'm thinking cow pally, 3 UD huntards, and a drood or shaman healer.

My situation is similar to yours. I had a max of 40k gold about a year ago, and spent most of it on gear and other junk for my alts. I probably have 15-20k scattered amongst ~25 characters now.
I'm not going to worry too much about gold. I will probably get around to auctioning profession mats at some point because I happen to have them, but nothing I'll get rich off of. Other than that I'll just accumulate gold as I go. There's not much that I expect to have to spend gold for; I will have all professions covered and I won't have to spend gold, though I probably will whenever it saves me time (ie, buying crafting materials to make something instead of spending hours farming). It'll be interesting to see how fast gold accumulates just from regular play, such as questing. I might set myself of goal of having X amount of gold on each character, say 5,000 by the time they're all 85. That would be around 125,000 total, which seems almost pathetic these days, heh.

There must be something wrong with me. The most gold I ever had was 8000 and I thought I was rich. The only profession I've ever maxed out was skinning.
The poetry that comes from the squaring off between,
And the circling is worth it,
Finding beauty in the dissonance
NOPE, definitely something wrong with both of you![]()

Lesson One: Don't spend money on gear. Most cases it will only last one tier. Which is like 3 months. If I hadn't spent money on gear I would probably have around 300k gold in my bank. Looking back all I can think is what a waste. I now only use gold to buy things that are forever, like mounts.
