Question Swap out huntard for what?

I leveled via RAF this team to 60:

    Warrior tank
    Destruction lock
    Fire mage
    Survival hunter
    Holy priest

I want to take out the hunter and swap in a different ranged dps class. What would you recommend? Not interested in Shamans.

I was thinking shadow priest but I heard their dps isn't that great at 80. I don't like druids that much because of the whole proccing thing you have to worry about.

Spriest sounds good because of the mana regen, is it pretty helpful? Should I just throw in another mage or lock? Decisions! I'm always so indecisive.

The reason I am taking the hunter out is I really hate the way pets act. They randomly attack targets after battle, they aggro shit all the time, you have to feed them and watch their happiness, sometimes I won't realise their pet is dead, and my hunter's autoattack always gets stuck on for some reason.

    Thanks for any input.

Shaman would be a great asset to this team, I haven't had much luck with SPriest either. Outside of that maybe another mage or lock. Arcane is the it spec right now, generally, so maybe add one of those.

The alternative would be to just fix your hunter. It sounds like you have some pretty simple issues that are easily corrected.

    1. Put the pet on passive. Put the passive spell on the pet bar to prevent it from getting auto-enabled again. Macro pet attack into one of the hunter shots.
    2. Turn off auto-switch targets under your interface options. It says something about switching automatically to melee or something like that. I don't have access to the game here at work to give you the exact place.
    3. Auto shot doesn't get stuck on. It's switching targets as it assists you. So, if you target something, it's gonna attack it. Turning off the option in #2 will prevent this from happening. It's annoying that it comes set as on as default.
    4. Get the glyph that increases the pets happiness when you heal it. It's a minor glyph that you should have anyway. Macro in a heal cast. Never have to feed your pet ever again.

What I meant by auto shot is I will kill a mob and have some down time while I loot/skin. 30 seconds later I'll target another mob to pull a group and the hunter will automatically start shooting that mob as soon as they assist me. If your option 2 fixes that, that will be nice. Its pretty darn random though, but still incredibly annoying because I wind up wasting a taunt right away.

I am actually going to keep the hunter in the group. I got a ferocity pet so he gains happiness when the pet attacks. I did some more dps testing and the warlock was the highest, followed closely by the survival hunter, then the mage. The spriest I quickly made actually did more dps than the mage, but this was at level 60, so I'm sure it's not conclusive.

Right now I'm trying to figure out if I want to heal with a druid or a priest....and if I want to swap the mage out with a spriest...lol it never ends.

Ok I finally made up my mind once I started messing around in MMO-Champion's RaidComp: http://raidcomp.mmo-champion.com/#

    I'm going with:

    Prot warrior
    Resto Druid
    Spriest
    Demo Lock
    Survival Hunter

I will forego the mage intellect buff (kinda worthless anhyways), and the mage's water/portals. Since all you have to do is go to Dalaran/Shatt for portals. The mage doesn't really offer anything else the other classes already have - the druid will give some int and can decurse, the lock and hunter both have replenishment so that will be up quite a bit.

With this group my tank with have a shitload of stamina

At 80, at this point, mage owns a shadow priest on dps. I suggest you consider this if you are considering playing this group at 80 and beyond. I have tried a shadow priest two different times in my 10 and 5 man setups and found it to be way too much work to bring him close to acceptable dps. I could never touch my locks, mages or shaman in terms of dps.

    Couple of points:

    • Portals go away when Cataclysm comes out - whether you buy it or not
    • Hunters loose replenishment in 4.01 (which is either in 4 days or the following Tuesday)
    • Int directly affects spellpower in 4.01 (which is either in 4 days or the following Tuesday)
    • Destruction locks offer replenishment, not demo
    • The only buff you added for stamina that I see is MOTW, which is 37 stamina in it's current fashion.

If that's the case I'll swap the druid and priest, then the druid will be boomkin and the priest will heal.

Not trying to rain on your parade but boomkin can be a bit of a pain too BUT, some of those mechanics change in 4.0 and that might make it easier. They lose some of the uber cool buffs, too, but will most likely be easier to dps with in 4 to 11 days than they are now. I hope this info is helpful. I know all too well the pain of getting a team (2 in fact) to 80 and then finding the combo does work as good as it looked on paper. I just finished getting my 2nd mage to 80 yesterday :/
