Thread: Bear vs pally

    Default Bear vs pally

I ran back-to-back pugs through a zergfest in Stockades yesterday with my 25 druid and then my 25 pally, both tanking.

When I ran with the pally, I was able to hold aggro through the entire instance without any problem.

When I ran with the druid, I was able to pick up one of the mobs (the one i fairie fired) but sometimes was never able to pick up the rest of the group because it took so long to get the rage needed to swipe.

The pally has all of their abilities front loaded due to mana, and consecration keeps ticking for a while, so that makes tanking (at least at lvl25) a hell of a lot easier. Is it always going to be hard to tank with the druid, or is it going to get easier?

right now it gets easier. after the patch though im not sure. seeing as theyre toning down all the aoe maneuvers. i think youll be able to hold aoe threat but the dps will need to focus fire on you target. my beta install got borked like almost immediately and i didnt feel like downloading it all over again. so im just going on what ive read.

but right now i play a solo bear tank at endgame and threat is one button easy mode.

Yes, at that level paladin is the aoe tank king. The druid really doesn't shine at tanking until you're in the 70s. I'd say the druid is the weakest aoe tank, but very good at single target threat.

My favorite tank I've used would be a warrior, they are absolutely great, so many awesome abilities.

Druid tanks are piles of crap till they atleast get mangle and lacerate....

lvl 80-85 so far I'm leaning more towards a DK than a Pally

A druid is like a warrior.
    You have zero rage initially.
But as you take damage, your rage builds.

A paladin starts with full mana.
    But using abilities depletes it.
You replenish mana, as you tank or are healed.

The druid seems to have a larger health pool.
Not sure if this will be true in Cataclysm.
You're still crit immune from talents alone.
    Agility and Stamina are important.
And dodge is your main mitigation factor, as you cannot parry or block.

The paladin works on Holy Power now.
Which is similar to rogue/cat energy.
    Strength and Stamina are important.
Talents get you crit immunity now.
And you can dodge, parry and block.
