    Default Prot Pally rotation 4.0

Posting this here for critiquing. After reading through the glyphs and talents and playing around, this is the rotation I came up with.

    #show
/castsequence reset=combat hammer of the righteous, judgement, crusader strike, holy wrath, hammer of the righteous, shield of the righteous, crusader strike, judgement, hammer of the righteous, word of glory
    /cast avenger's shield

Trying to get the aoe tanking like before and build up holy power for sotr and wog.

Any thoughts or any better solutions?

    No Consecration?

Also add in Holy Wrath - it's instant cast as well. It isn't like you'll be running out of mana.

Prot tanking is difficult right now. Some say its fine and just deal with it, but im not in that camp. It reminds me of how you had to tank in the original Everquest.

My obervations so far is that Paladin tanks are produceing much less agro and many of the dps classes have improved their DPS and lost a lot of their agro reduction passive talents.

Next the passive scaleing agro mechanic doesnt work for us yet. Where up to 10% of your hp gets added to your attack power. Problem is this is only added after you are hurt. So it takes time to build up and with most people right now were still so over geared and things dying so fast that this doesnt get rolling for us to benifit.

Next, the only spell we currently have that scales is Shield of the Righteous, but only if you stack 3x holy power and the fight lasts long enough to get a full stack of Vengence. That and with it takeing 9 seconds to charge up, its just too little too late for current content methods. Expecting dps classes who got a 20%+ boost to dps and in the past took 15min to clear a heroic to slow down and take 30min is unreasonable because of the tank/agro mechanics.

Next we have hammer vs crusader strike or the aoe vs single target. First issue is with Crusader Strike. 120% weapon damage. whoopy crap. If I had a big slow 2hander its nice. But our current tanking weapons are wussy fast hitting 1 handers so we can stack seal of truth. An extra hit every 3s on a 1.6 speed weapon that hits 20% harder than normal is crap. Hammer hits for like 48% and a 1000+ holy aoe. Right now its not a aoe vs single target. More like Hammer for everything and CS on raid bosses. I did some target dummy testing on single targets using CS vs hammer. Currently CS will eventualy out dps hammer on a single target, but it took around 100 attacks and even then it was only ahead around 15% dps. 2000dps vs 2300 dps. Anything outside of a raid boss simply isnt going to live long enough for the dps/threat difference to matter.

Avengers shield hits really hard now. And with the talent to have the cooldown reset it makes it attractive. Personly I see this as a sucker bet. Prot doesnt have enough abilities to use this reset w/o sitting for 3s for CS/Hammer to cool down. It reminds me of the old judgement cooldown talent. There was no reason to take more than 1 point because it provides no benifit. Avengers shield currently is part of the new 939 rotation so tossing it early means not having it for when it comes up in a rotation. Any prot tank who knows that consistant and constant agro wins fights. Not crossing fingers hoping for a dps/agro spike based on random cooldown resets, then doing nothing while you wait for cooldowns.

There are a lot of little things as well that have reduced prot threat like the removal of the damage component to our taunt. DPS loss from crusade, judgements of the just and shield cleaving are gone.

Maybe at 85 it will be different, maybe at 83 in 322 greens it will be different, but right now. Prot got its toys taken away and the dps classes we protect got shiny new ones.

Its possible that gear might not be optimal for threat. You can't expect to be max on defensive and also generate max threat.

I think i am going to break it in 2 macros.
Long cooldown openners- Judge, AS Concentration, HW. AW(still working on the order) This would correspond with my DOTs on casters(mostly).
Than HotR,HotR,HotR,SotR rest=control/2sec Cant use CS of single targe since it has no Holy damage. I am not sure to put Judgement in here somewhere or just goto the first maco. Or what to fill in between HotR.

For Rets single target 3xCS, Templar's Vertic
    Multiple targets 3xCS, Divine Storm.

Why cant we do it in one rotation thats what i did last night and worked fine. I open with conscecration, avengers wrath judgement then went crusador then shield then hammer then shield then crusador. I found it the best way.

I went with friends so i could get my rotation all one button. I mixed in the aoe with single target so u dont think. You might say waste but why not cause u attack a single target first right when they come in to u so why not open with crusader strike. Then by the time the rest are on you u can hammer.

It worked good and had no threat issues at all.

I just tanked HHoR (single box), which was the first instance/raid I have run since the patch and wasn't too concerned. bear in mind I am geared and at the hit/expertise cap.

DPS need to realise now that if they aren't focusing on my target, they will pull aggro and die. They also need to watch meters, if they are gaining threat on the tank they need to back off a bit. Blizz have said many times that this is the way they want the game to go and DPS just need to stop looking at meters and pay attention to what they are doing. Of course good dps have done this all along

Our threat rotation seems to be prioritising getting 3 holy powers, and using AS, AW and Conc to fill in cd gaps. AS is AMAZING right now and is something you should always be hitting whenever the CD is off/reset.

I am sad that the mega passive health regen we had is now gone, doing the ZG bosses now makes me drop under 50% even with cooldowns, I'm really missing Judgement of Light and Sacred Shield but meh I will deal with it.

Change is always a tough thing to face, but I'm really like the way things have been shaken up and am looking forward to doing ICC tonight.

So. After some testing, I can keep up a pretty solid AoE rotation with the following macro:

/castsequence reset=combat hammer of the righteous, judgement, hammer of the righteous, word of glory
    /cast avenger's shield
    /cast holy wrath
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Obviously, the castsequence macro system is broken as hell right now. In addition to falling through a castsequence to longer-cooldown abilities, the following macro:

/castsequence reset=combat hammer of the righteous, judgement, hammer of the righteous, hammer of the righteous, word of glory
will NEVER cast two hammers in a row, despite what the macro says.
    Now playing: WoW (Garona)
