New computer, wow keeps crashing

Hey guys. I have been using a crappy compaq presario to 2-3 box until recently I built a new computer. q6600 quad core processor, 4 gigs ram, galaxy geforce 8800gt 512 mb video card etc. Its a very good computer and this is frustrating me.

I'm only trying to dual-wow on this new computer for the time being, and it works amazing. Except every 20 minutes or so, one of the two wow's will crash. Another thing that is frequently happening, is the games themselves are glitching and the screen is turning all different colors.

I don't know what the problem is. I have good drivers, good case ventilation, 650w power supply.. Like I said the game runs beautifully. I had 5 Wow's open earlier to test it out with friends accounts, all 5 were running at 50 FPS. So if any of you have input on what could be the problem let me know

I might also add, that each time wow crashes, my macro's and all other settings are gone. I have to redo everything. Could this be a problem with memory, or do I have some bad wow files? I did a fresh reinstall of WoW and TBC, so I can't see this being the problem.

I have found a problem that MAY be causing this. My ram sticks require timing and voltage changes in the BIOS that I was no aware of. Changed the timing to 5.4.4.15 and voltage to 2.1, 800mhz, and things seem to be working fine. I"ll post later after playing for a while.

I havent even started dual boxing yet so this probably wont be it, but since your having problems with macro's my best guess is that you are opening 2 wows from the same wow.exe file.

From what i've read its something to do with 2 versions of wow trying to read off and change the wtf which then conflicts and crashes it.

To fix it - just copy wow into another folder call it wow2 and take the shortcut from the wow2 and call it wow2.exe to launch wow. So you have 1 wow.exe running and 1 wow2.exe running.

I've probably explained this badly so basically you can just copy paste wow into a differnt foler, rename the 2nd one and get the shortcut from it, rename it so u know which is which. this also helps in that you can save 2 account names and if you have the same pass on 2 accounts just type it once press enter and both will log in.

I had this problem for a period of time. It eventually went to blue-screen crashes.

My solution after some trouble-shooting was simple: I had two 1GB sticks of dual-channel RAM but I had failed to put them in the correct slots. Make sure they go in alternating slot sets for memory (as in put stick 1 in slot 1, but stick 2 in slot 3). Many motherboards require this setting for dual-channel memory.

fter I did that, I have not crashed or blue-screened since.

I believe I have fixed the problem. It was with the RAM, but they are in the correct slots, but I forgot to change the bios settings. I had to change the timings, up the voltage and speed. Computer works like a charm now. Thanks anyways,
