Default Delay in targetting but not with instant abilities :S

    Hey again guys,

Sorry for making a new topic but just wanna get good quickly and couldn't find a thread relating to this issue

Basically if my shamans use Totems or Lightning Shield, all 3 do it instantly but when it comes to changing targets it takes me a lot longer like maybe i have to spam the button but 30% of the time it will work if i press it once only

Wondering if this is keyclone only problem or is it my computer? not sure but dont like the delay in changing my targets, same applies to looting.. i have to spam the keybinds that make them assist the master and then interact with target key.

    Any help is welcome,

    Thank you!

i would say its the time it takes for you client to talk to the server and back basiclly.

but im not a computer wizard so dont quote me on that..

When you press lightning shield, all of your instances react at the same time, so you see the lightning effect immediately. The issue with targeting is due to server-client lag. I'm assuming you clones are assisting your main in one for or another (targettarget, focustarget, assist / target, etc). So what happens is this: Your main switches targets instantly, and sends that information to the server, then the server will broadcast that information down to all the clients nearby. So when you switch targets and immediately go to cast a spell, your main will have the new target, however your slaves won't see the new target until they receive the information from the server.

The reason for this is that it makes more sense to broadcast target information to the clients, rather than having the clients query for it. If that was the case, then you'd have noticeable lag in every spell that you cast.

So it's not a problem in keyclone or a problem in your computer. It's simply the way the client-server architecture is designed.

Let's assume you have 150ms ping to the server.

    Example:
    • Your main switches targets. (local; 0ms)
    • Your client sends a "change target" notification to the server (150ms)
    • Server processes the targeting change (10-50ms usually, much longer if your server is lagging)
    • Server broadcasts your main's new target back to everyone in range of him (150ms)
    • Your alts update their UI to reflect your main's new target and can now target his new target when you press your /assist button.

So in that case, it takes a minimum of ~350ms or so under perfect conditions for your alts to "see" a targeting change on your main and be able to assist him. If you are lagging, your server is lagging, or you're in Wintergrasp/IF/Dalaran/etc., it make take a couple of seconds or more for your alts to see the new target.

[edit] On FiOS, I was getting 9ms pings to Magtheridon, but it still took my alts about half a second (500ms) to "see" my main's target changes. I'm averaging about 750ms or so now with pings around 170ms. Just anecdotal evidence but might help you a bit.
