    Default FPS issue.

    Hello community,

I recently started four-boxing again but I am having an fps issue. Here is my setup:

    My setup:
ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 (disabled 1 gpu)
    i7 920 2.67 Ghz
    6 GB Memory
    Intel 80GB SSD

As far as I know there should be no problems with my setup, but I am not sure if one, or more, of the parts are malfunctioning. I am having great fps when running around alone, but as soon as some heavy particle effect hits my screen my fps drops to around 5 fps, and it feels wrong. 4x Thunderstorm makes my fps drop from 40 to 20 for a few seconds. I've also noticed that my fps drops a lot when entering towns to around 20 fps (from 40), and it never used to irritate me, as it does now.

Using ISBoxer+Innerspace, and foreground fps is limited at 40, while background fps is limited at 15. Two monitors with one client being 1920x1200 and three clients being 480x300 (kinda small).

Windows 7 was re-installed not long ago and the os is in pretty good shape and not bloated at all. Drivers are also up-to-date. I am aware that 4870x2 can get pretty hot, but I've tested if that was the issue, it wasn't.

My point is that my setup doesn't run smooth at all, even though it should run pretty stable. I am wondering if you have any ideas, or what I should try to replace first? Hardware or software related?

I am stuck, and don't know what to do here. Thanks for the help ;-)

    and...

Multisampling set to 1x, and my ingame video settings are the lowest possible, except for a bit of particle density and view distance. My settings used to be much better in the past but I blamed it on the ageing of the os and my new hardware. Maybe it wasn't the only reason it dropped but I am uncertain.

Split up rendering of your other characters between the GPUs on your 4870x2. Also, are your background windows rendering at 1920x1200 with a smaller window or what? When I did isboxer I always had all my windows run at identical resolutions (at least actual rendering, slaves were scaled down when in the background)

Oh, that is right, I forgot all clients render at the same size (allowing quick swap afaik), but I have always had that feature enabled.

I am not sure I can split my gpu the way you suggest but it still feels like an malfunction somewhere, I don't think a tweak I've never used will fix the problem. But I'll look into it, and try it out, if it is possible.

Hm, doesn't look like it is possible with 4870x2 .. do remember it is not two cards but an CF card.

To give another example of my lag: The death animation is destroying my computer, and it is impossible for my slaves to follow, and especially fly while death. It is again the particles.

Does anyone have an idea, if I should try replace gpu/cpu/memory/mb? :-)

Just to be picky: CF card = 2 GPUs =2 cards with <= 2 PCBs. I think but I'm not sure if there were any dual-PCB 4870x2s. Anyways, sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm sure Lax could help you more in the isboxer IRC. (I think it's irc.lavishsoft.net #isboxer)

I think you're wrong, as I've only got one PCB, but there are two cores on the PCB .. I am not exactly sure tho :-) Anyway, I do not think that trick would fix my problem, as I've never used it. I do appreciate your help tho!

Ensure you are not using ATI driver version 10-8. There was some issues with that version. 10-9 has been released and it corrected the issues with 10-8.

I wasn't sure off hand/didn't want to look up and see if it was single pcb vs dual pcb. ATI generally in the last couple generations has used single PCB dual GPU cards. Still, you SHOULD be able to delineate which gpu does what work within isboxer. Again, Lax would be the one to help you.

It might not fix, but it could improve!
