Exclamation Planning an upgrade, would like some input

    Hey

I'm planning on upgrading my main PC to be able to 5 box comfortably on it.
At the moment I can run 4 instances with one (main) instance set to medium setting (no shadows) and the rest on the lowest
Setting possible and can run around dalaran ok but bit laggy, wintergrasp can be a fecking nightmare once inside the base : /
This is all using isboxer with the quick swap windows etc, I know I can turn that all off to improve performance but then I see
Hardly any reasons to use boxer over my current set up (5 pc's each with a keyclone) I want to use isboxer for current PvP as
Its just better and I'm beginning to think it will also be the best choice for when cata hits (maybe the only choice)

    Currently my main PC's spec:

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.7GHz
Mobo: Asus Formula Striker II Nforce 780iSLI
    Gcards: 2x Asus EN9800GTX+ SLI'd
    RAM: 4GB Corsair Dominator (4x1GB)
HDD: 2x velociraptors 160GB in raid 0. 1x WD 150GB for data. 1x 500GB Seagate for back up.
    PSU: 650w tough power
OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 (also ubuntu)

While 4 boxing the CPU Runs @ 90%- 100% and the memory @ 83% and from the heat my Gcards start pumping out I'm
    Guessing there going nuts aswell.

I'm certain that if I added more RAM and changed the Gcards it would improve BUT DDR2 RAM is very old now so I see no
Point in just replacing for the same but bigger. Also the mobo, CPU and tech that go's with are getting on a little now SO
    To my plan...

Parts I want to upgrade and what with:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Six Core 3.2GHz Socket AM3
Mobo: Asus crosshair IV Formula AMD 890FX
    Gcard: 1x Sapphire ATI Radeon 5870 Vapor-X OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express
    RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz (4x2GB)
HDD: OCZ Vertex 2E 60GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive + My other drives for data/random storage

And then keep everything else the same
Oh and I will be using 1x asus 22" full HD monitor as main and running slaves on a 32" (not decided what yet)

I think that this would be a great set up and in theory (to me anyway) should be able to 5 box without breaking a sweat, But can it?
Will this not be enough?, will it be perfect? or am I going OTT and just wasting money? I don't care too much about the latter
If I'm wasting money then that means its a beast right ? ;P I like this!

If anyone has some tips on if there is a better Gcard to go for or RAM or CPU etc etc then I'd love to hear about it

    Thanks in advance

Well its hard to say with Cata coming out very soon.

If you want to box 5 now or wait to see how intensive Cata is and go from there.

I had to upgrade when Wotlk came out from a rig I was using to 5 box easily with BC.

But your rig looks solid, never used an AMD 6 core myself (running i7).
I think i'm using 28% of processor and like 30% of 12 gigs of memory atm just running 4 boxes.

But then again... Cata might change it all

You would be foolish to not get X58 or P55 platform.

Depends on if he wants it to last a while and spend a tich more up front vs saving some by going AMD. I agree intel is a better path, although it might be better to wait for Sandy Bridge (intel's new socket/chip) and see how it turns out. AMD is also bringing out a new architecture (Bulldozer, I think). Not sure of and super special specifics on both chips.

Think I will give it a few weeks into cata before I invest in upgrades, maybe even next year after the stuff I've been reading : /
I think I will be going with intel, if it's worth it.

The new Intel 'Sandybridge' chips should hit the shops around Christmas/New Year time and I think the new ATI/AMD HD6xxx series GPU's about the same time too. Might be better to wait til then
