So food stamps magically appear out of thin air? And how the hell do you afford to buy a house if you're close enough to the poverty level to qualify for food stamps?

Fvck that. I know how to share. I like sharing--With the people I know and like. Why the fvck should I share with some guy I don't know?

I think Stephen Colbert had this one right:

"Class is a way of defining people by how much money they're willing to make."
"Tact is for those that lack the wit for sarcasm."

It is really not about you sharing with someone but rather when you might need someone to share with you, under the vision "no friends = no sharing" you would be homeless and starving? Oh wait, the classic response to that is "I can always take care of myself, I will never need anyone to help me" , I wish I was that sure of myself that I never have illness or misfortune overtake me.

Respectfully Crowdx, I don't believe that is what a lot of people Think about when they align themselves to being Independent.

all I can offer is anecdotal evidence to this mix though. I'm the fire chief for a very small Volunteer Fire Department, Most of what we do is grass fires from idiots throwing out Cigs off the highway; But every now and then, we will have a structure fire, or Oil fire.

In the last five years or so of leading these fine men and women under my command, I have seen some amazing things.

One lady, started and maintains a local Cloths drive, for those who have lost everything.

One weekend, after a fire destroyed an Elderly ladies home, I was surprised to see many of us show up the next day, with out any plans, To help her Clean up the mess. Yes, fire mess is bad, But cleaning up after we get it out is a huuuuge mess.

We have volunteered our time, Money, and resources , building new homes for those who where un-insured , Or didn't get a good value on their homes.

The point being, is these where all voluntary kinds of helping. We had the choice, to help if need be. The way current government control is, You don't get that choice. It's the lack of freedom, that angers so many people who think like me.

And Please don't get me wrong, It's not a left vs right thing at all for me. It's more of a constitutional thing. If I may, I suggest reading the Life of Davey Crockett, by Ellis.

While this link is to a conservative site, the book predates it far and large, and gives a better example , of why I would dismiss a lot of the programs, that I can not in any way, find constitutional.

Remember, this book was written back in 1884, and the BS politics that we all have came to hate was different then to a large degree.

anyways, that's all I'm gonna say about it, as I respect to many of the posters here, to get into a Political debate, and I hate when politics get's involved, It has the potential to ruin possible friendships.

My last words are, once I pay my taxes there is not a lot I can do on how the government spends it, as someone did point out to me when I moved to the US, you live in an elected republic, not a democratic republic. So for me, I pay my taxes and move on, resenting how it is spent is a waste of energy, if the poor does not get my taxes, the arms manufacurers will

hehe capitalism Vs socialism arguments (or whatever).

Maybe consider this story - I've got a baby daughter born 4 months early and stayed in hospital for a year before coming home. To cut a REALLY long story short if we were in the states we may have be bankrupt, homeless and probably baby-less. Here, not questions asked, just what's the best for the kid. She's developing fine and ahead of expectation (have a less that 10% chance of survival this time last year).

I'm not saying our system is good or works or whatever but sometimes not putting a price of a life or operation can make such a huge difference. After that experience I've decided to stop judging people and accept that people will ALWAYS take advantage of a policy.

Would you still withdraw your tax dollars from her if it meant also removing support for a family that REALLY needs it?

And if you're still concerned about your tax dollars, god forbid anything were to ever happen to you which may require generosity from anyone. Because you would then understand why these measures are in place, and you would be glad you're not running the government hehe.

    In peace.
