When I first started multiboxing with a mixed team, this is how I used to heal with my priest. I forget the name of the program, but basically it hit keystrokes depending on which voice command I gave it. I had like 20+ keys bound for things like renew A, renew B, shield A, etc. It wasn't considered automation then, as long as it hit one key at a time.

This was back before any software was available for multiboxing. Things have changed a lot and I'm still trying to catch up. I use ISboxer and healer repeating regions now.

I just looked it up, it's called Voice Buddy. Required a bit of setup, but it worked well. You read out loud a few paragraphs to train it to your voice. It was accurate about 90% of the time. I made macros for every voice command, so for example Heal tank would hit ctrl-[ and the corresponding macro would be:

    /target tank
    /cast greater heal

Same thing for shields, renews, etc times 5 for the group. Of course, you need a headset on or mic up to your face the whole time. Avoid using functions/macros on your G15, Nostromo or other hardware that presses any key more than once and you'll be fine. Macros in game are ok.

There was one problem I had with Voice Buddy. You specify which program you want it to work with, in this case WoW. But if you had multiple windows open, it had a problem picking the right one. I got around this by having my priest & VB on his own computer.

ISBoxer with repeater regions works like this. You have your party unit frames in alphabetical order in the same spot on each character screen. Then with the addon Clique on your healer, whenever your healer does a click key combo on a unit frame, it casts a spell. For example, right click on anyone in my party shields them, middle button casts greater heal. You can add ctrl, shift, alt click combos if you like.

Then you make that area where you place your unit frames a repeater region, which means anytime you click in that region, that click will repeat in another toon's window. You can make it so that click will only go to the healer's window, and since his party unit frames are in the same spot, you can do everything the priest can do spell-wise just by clicking in that window. Heal, shield, renew, you name it.

Even mass dispel, where you have to place a target circle before casting, is handled nicely by ISBoxer. It will let you turn on mouse repeating, so moving the mouse pointer moves it to the same spot in your healer's window. Same thing for aoe.

Which is more effective? Voice healing was pretty damn nice. When I was a regular raider, I used Clique back then, so I'm used to it. This whole concept with repeater regions is a natural fit for me. But ISBoxer offers much more than the software available when I used VB. Instant character switching, make other toons loot, see everything on 1 screen etc is great.

Try both, and see what you like. They both offer free trials. Although if you have 1 computer, you're better off with ISBoxer because of the caveat I mentioned earlier. And if you do decide to buy it, give Uulaa a referral. I forgot to give him one, this would make up for it.
