My thought process was, a new team wont be able to figure out a strat for a match or two so rushing can catch them off guard, but a team that's played me several times already has a plan so all I'm doing is giving up my first 1 or 2 gcd's basically in order to drop totems and since they already know how to counter me I gain nothing. I think if you want to get gladiator it will take some real dedication, I believe its possible but you have to basically find the 1 or 2 top 5 teams you feel you can beat and poach them. By poach them I mean make alts on their servers and wait for them to queue up .. then queue up ... this is how many regular teams go about getting gladiator infact .. but its tedious. I think if you can get up into the top40 or so .. then you can poach your way into the top 5 for gladiator .. given you find a couple top ranked teams you can beat consistantly.
