core i7 930 vs 750, does triple channel memory help multiboxing?

I am trying to decide on what to upgrade my overclocked Q6600 to, either the core i5 750 or to up to the core i7 930. Price difference is about $300, largly from the RAM, only need 8GB for dual channel, but i'd get 12GB for triple channel. (id get 3 3GB sticks for 9GB total if they made them.)

For the most part, all of the i7 and i5 processors seemed to be near identical in terms of performance.

Will hyperthreading and triple channel memory make a big difference?

I already have an SSD and a decent video card (GTX 275), which I'll update later.

same sort of article at Tom's Hardware. They state that a i5-750 is all the CPU most hard core gamers will ever need. They found no CPU bottleneck until you start pushing dual video cards at max rez. Look for the gaming CPU monthly article.
The other stuff that the i7-930 gives you is more for heavy photoshop and such application software, there you will feel the difference

So for the i7 it would allow me to save a 9gb photoshop file quicker? Is that all (as of now)?

The CPU is almost irrelivent, for wow.

You want a P55 or X58 system and what cpu you put in it dosn't much matter for wow, money spent for a faster processor is much much better spent on more ram or better video card.

I have not looked in any great detail but 3 channel or 2 channel ram, to me, now, also should not be a consideration. ALL RAM is way way way faster then Hard Drive, even the most worst possible motherboard ram is still way way better then hard drive, and somewhat better then SSD drive also.

Just get a Motherboard that is P55 or X58 and is advertized to run 24G ram max. Then buy the cheapest cpu it will take, and the cheapest 4G rams that it will take (and spend your money on more ram untill you hit 24G total or run out of your budget) . Then get a 1G plus video card (2G is better) and you is gtg.

I'm more interested in if the platform (LGA 1136 vs LGA 1156) will come into play. And 24GB of ram is a waste IMO, i have 8GB now and I have plenty of headroom. Also, it's way easier to add ram and a video card later on, I only need to upgrade the platform at the moment.

CPU is not irrelevant, for multiboxing it's one of the most taxed components in my current system now.

I found a deal at microcenter, the i7 930 for $200 + tax, local pickup, so no shipping. Can't beat that price.

You can get 8gb ram on x58 also. The motherboards support triple channel ddr but you don't need that, dual channel is more then enough

BTW, I regret not buying 2x video cards as the rest of my pc is overkill but overall performance just mediocre as Im limited to using only half the resources on my gpu (radeon 5970) because its internal crossfire can't be disabled.

I'm going to put 6GB in for now, to keep initial costs down, and buy 6GB later. I haven't been multiboxing lately as it is, so 12GB would truely be overkill.

I'll buy the CPU at Microcenter to save $90. I already have the case, DVD/Blu-Ray drive, SSD, and Video card (GTX 275 and a GTX 260)

My second choice was going to be the Corei7 875K with the unlocked multiplier on the LGA 1156 platform, but that CPU is pricier than the 930. Also, keeping on the LGA 1366 platform leaves me open to being able to buy a 6 core processor down the road, once they get sub $800.
