Default PVP Arena - Gear & ranking question

Just started my first Arena experience and I have to say, it was terrible...I got killed so fast I could even start to think about strategy. The few spells I landed only scratched the opponents, while they one shot my toons.

My favourite death was 5 druids stealthed that one shot my shamys with 5x starfire from nowhere. ok, I probably should not have stayed so close togehter

My team (pala+4Shammy) has PVE ilvl 219-232 equip, only few PVP items, average res is 300.

Is the reason for getting killed so fast low resillience or is it just me playing bad?

Also, I looked my some of the opposing teams. They all were full wrath amour with some 251-277 PvE. Why am I getting end game opponents as an arena starter? Is this getting better once I loose more rating?

The PvP screen shows a starting rating of "0", but in the arena you can still see the old starting value of "1500". Which one counts? I hope the in game, this would at least explain the skills of my opponents.

300 resi isnt going to help you one bit. You need atleast 700 to even notice that u have better survivability, but from personal experience i feel like i roll best with around 1300 resi.

This late in the season many players are realy overgeared and will beat you ONLY because they have good gear. not much you can do about it with the gear you have atm. You should get atleast full furious/relentless before you can work out a playstyle that works for you. Im not gonna lie, its gona be a pain in the ass the first weeks untill u get better gear. But once u get on like 25k hp and 1100 resi, things are gonna feel much more comfortabel. so...
    step one: get gear
    step two: dont panic
    step three: get gear

as the ratin goes there are two ratings you should think about. (actualy three, but dont think about this)
one is team rating. this is the rating wich "counts". this is the true rating you have earned and can get points for and unlock items for.
second one is matchmaking rating or MMR, this tells whan your calculated "normal" rating is. And it sets you up with the teams wich is closest to your MMR. they may wary in rating dependin on who is playing.

    Hope this helps some

We all go through this in the beginning. I was 1-9 the first week trying arenas this season and I believe I had deadly gear. Having pve gear just does not work for our comp. Even with allpvp gear it's hard at times. U just need to grind bgs and get some honor gear and do atleast 10 Arena games (although I would recommend more for experience).

Unfortunately ur probably gonna face alot of teams that out gear u and it's not cuz of ur rating, it's just not enough low geared teams queing.

Just keep at it. It will get ALOT better once ur alittle geared and get more experience.

Lastly for arena questions, post in the pvp section. You'lll get alot more helpful responses.

I completely agree with Smokebum, after having just experienced it. He gave me the same advice.

My first two weeks of Arena were a total flop, I think I went 0-10 the first week and 2-8 the next. I had just dinged 80 though and had no gear. Currently wearing furious/relentless gear and all the wrathful offpieces/trinkets. Running 25,378 health and 1161 resilience, it.. really helps a lot.

Running 5v5, 4 boxed elemental shamans and a resto shaman(a separate person). We started to get serious about it on our third week when I finished getting starting gear, and we're currently sitting at just under 1600 rating. We plan to push/grind up to 1800 by the end of this week or the next. Where it's the end of the season, you will lose to teams that solely out gear you, which is a shame because it can be really demoralizing, especially if you're new to it.

Just keep at it. Keep getting gear and work on your play style by doing matches over and over. Learn how to face different comps, what to focus down first and it all will get better in time. It's worth the effort, doing Arenas and Battlegrounds this way is the most fun I've ever had on WoW.

    Good luck.

    Like said before.

Get 10 games a week done so you get points so you'll be able to buy relentless gear.
Farm Honor, atleast wrath ring, cloak, neck, BM trink + insignia should help. Think about hitcap when you buy cloak and neck. You need ~160 hit or so to be hit capped, which you'll want.
