That would vary upon the other system parts, Tom's Hardware has stated many times the the i5-750 has all the CPU power you need to run almost every game. That CPU runs on the 1156 socket MB. Unless you need 3-4 graphics cards or your software makes use of Hyper-Threading, The x55 MB's will do just fine.

Also, anyone know if the i7's benefit from even number of sticks of ram? Remember how in the q6600's if you had 3 sticks it would not run as fast unless it had 4? Something about the channels....so you either had 2 sticks, or 4 sticks. I see he is purchasing 3....

Socket 1156 still utilizes dual channel, Socket 1366 utilizes triple channel. Even though you can find motherboards that can sport both an 1156 or a 1366, they'll use dual channel because of the 1156 restrictions.
