Hey grats on your Win in Atlantic City.

Had to do a double take on your CD burner there. That's a bulk price @ $279.99 Had me wondering what in the world is that, that it would cost so much. Does it make it's own DVD's out of sand or something.

I don't recommend running WoW and Windows on the same drive. You can increase your speeds a few ways. 2 small 7200 RPM drives that you setup in a RAID0 array (this is how I ran for a long time and is the cheaper route) or with a Solid State Drive. These are popular because they have no moving parts and are wicked fast :/ Even a second drive with just WoW on it will help some. I only make this recommendation because you said you may want to stream.

First and foremost, I would never buy such a high end motherboard as an open box item, you have absolutely no idea how it was treated before it became an open box item. Here is Newegg's open box policy:
    Code:
If you purchase an Open-Box product Newegg guarantees only that you will receive the
product itself; accessories MAY OR MAY NOT BE INCLUDED with Open-Box products. Newegg
will not send you a missing accessory, even if the missing accessory is required in
order to properly make use of all the product’s advertised functions.
Second of all, if you have to ask other people for advice on building a computer [no offense, this is one of the things this forum is here for], you should not even be buying such a high end motherboard like that; you will not be taking advantage of any of the bells and whistles it offers which cost the extra money, regardless of whether you have that cash to throw around or not.

    Unless...

...you had plans of becoming a computer enthusiast who wants to overclock their rig like a mad man. If that is the case, then I would suggest getting rid of that Zalman CPU cooler and getting something a little manlier like a TRUE Black, an Ultra 120, or go all out with water cooling.

    Back on topic...

As Coltimar suggested, I wouldn't run WoW on the same HDD as Windows either, let alone record FRAPS at the same time as doing it. I currently run Windows, WoW, and record FRAPS all on three separate HDDs. Either get an SSD [there are about 738 recent threads on them in this forum], buy a nice Western Digital Raptor, or at least another drive so you can separate Windows from WoW.

Also, the memory your friend selected for you won't even work with that motherboard. That motherboard is one of those hybrid i3/i5/i7 boards which is using dual channel memory, not triple channel.

I would keep the triple channel memory [I would recommend Mushkin or Corsair myself, but to each their own] and switch to a real Core i7 1366 setup which almost everyone and their mother have upgraded to [except for you AMD folks ]. Meaning, pick up a Core i7 930 and and then a real motherboard which will run a 1366 socket processor. I would recommend one of these.

You also do not have a video card listed there so I'll just go ahead and recommend an eVGA 460 GTX 1GB model because I'm an nVidia fan boy. If you were to purchase 2 of those 460's they outperform one single 480 and they are cheaper. This is of course in SLI which is not recommended for multiboxing, I was just throwing that out there in case you play other games which can utilize SLI.

    FOR ALL OF DUAL-BOXING.COM:
IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE UPGRADING TO AN i7 SYSTEM AND YOU LIVE NEAR A MICROCENTER THEN YOU CAN PURCHASE ONE THERE FOR ALMOST $100 LESS THAN NEWEGG SELLS THEM. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE WITH THEIR PROCESSORS FOR QUITE AWHILE NOW.

It wouldn't hurt to look through at least 10 pages of this forum to see what other i7 systems people are building. Any other questions... fire away.

Thanks Fenril this was just a (rough) build so far. Friend still doesnt completely understand what im trying to do with this cpu so ill switch out that motherboard for
ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

I do plan on getting a seperate SSD for wow and i have a ATI radeon HD 4870 512 that i was just going to double up on and throw in new system. I do want to overclock this computer somewhat and my original plans were to have water cooling but from what i read it can be costly. IM not going to jump right into it ill tweak it and relist till i get somthing that will do what i want it to do. Thanks for your help thus far. I will revise the list tomorrow and repost.

Cool man. I was hoping my post wasn't coming off as a "know-it-all" since I definitely don't know it all and there plenty of other knowledgeable people that post in this forum who can [and probably will] offer their advice. When building a computer and choosing brands it's a lot of personal preference. I like Asus, someone might hate Asus and like DFI or eVGA better... who is right?

Anyway, that's definitely a good board from all of the reviews at Newegg and it was also my choice in my upcoming build [unless I decide to hold out for the next gen processors]. It's always fun to put your own computer together though, so have fun with it.

everyone better slow down a sec and look at the parts!
Agree with Fenril on an open box anything, not worth the saving.
a 1366 MB does not work with a i7-870 cpu
12 gig RAM does not work in a 1156 MB
What are you using the computer for?
everyting? A blu-ray player is fine, a SSD is almost a must. RAM over 1 gig per toon is fine.

Not to put down your friend, but maybe he should check what he told you, or else I can see why he is out of business.

reread the prices and relized that they are not posted next to correct picture. The price is for the above item. DVD is $19

Im starting to doubt his knowledge now. If it isnt too much to ask or if someone is completely bored with nothing to do i would like a computer build that will run 5 wow clients without any lag issues, that will also record and possibly stream videos of me quad boxing my shamans for around 1500$ I do have a ati radeon 4870 512 i could double up on or use 1. Im clueless on these things and what works with what. I do know building your own is alot cheaper than buying one already built plus will be a neat learning experience. so if anyone could link a build here with those specs i would be greatly appreciative.

The site buyxg.com build my custom computer over a year ago for $1,500 and I keep seeing peeps with computer specs, that I consider worse than mine, for $2k+.

If I could get an i7 920, 12GB 1600 RAM, SSD, decent video card with lots of VRAM, and all the extras (nice case with big fans, big power supply, etc) for $1,500 a year ago, then you better be sure you're getting bang for your buck at 2k.

Well i was going to bash you for not going X58 but

    http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...&limitstart=17

just go to the last page lol.

Even with a 5% faster 2.8Ghz Intel Core i7-860 installed, the P55 system delivered an average 10% better CPU performance and 7% better memory bandwidth than the 2.66GHz Intel Core i7-920 on the X58 platform. With the performance trends leaning towards P55 over X58, it was the 33% improvement to power efficiency that really sealed the win.

Not sure if you can get 24G on this board or not but seems P55 is not an unwise choice over X58, at least based on that one review which seems comprehensive.

If you want no lag at all you get 24G of ram on at least a X58 system, put the whole wow folder in ram. That will eliminate texture lag, you might still get ping lag. I talk about ping lag in detail on the first post at my web site.

Just go all thermaletake for the PS, Box and CPU fan, you can min/max other stuff but at least they all worktogether just go to thier web site and get whats you need.

Make sure the memory you use is on the motherboard manufacturers approved vendor list or whatever its called (chips that they have tested in their system).
