Default My new goal: Mountain O' Mounts!

I've decided that my new goal in WoW is going to be a combination of my first obsession (Mount collecting) with my newer obsession (Multiboxing). First, a little history:

I've been in an odd place over the last couple of months, as far as WoW and multiboxing go. I had basically hit the 5-man wall quite some time ago. I got all the gear I could with just 5-man content (except for all the Emblem of Frost gear, but getting that 2 emblems at a time [sometimes more if the weekly was easy] got boring), and leveling new teams got stale after about 15 level 80s and way-too-many 60s. I'm still a little weary about Cataclysm, and after finishing "What a long, strange trip ......", I really felt like I had nothing to do but grind out Emblems of Frost. Then I remembered something Supernova told me a while back: Do something that nobody has done!

Right before I started multiboxing, I was an insane Mount Collector on my original Hunter. I was only the 2nd person on my server to get 100 Mounts (I missed being the first by 2 days), and have always had good luck with mounts, and always found it very fun.

I decided to look up the most current list of available mounts, cross-checked with the rares I already have, did some math, and it is most definitely possible to get 100 mounts now without depending much on the really RARE mounts (unlike in the old days, before the Argent Tournament, Celestial Steed and Touring Rocket). Now, it will mostly be grinding. Tons and tons of grinding, but I'm up for the challenge.

    What I will do:

-All of the original city reps.
    -All of the outlands reps.
-Any mount that you can just buy at a vendor (Bear in Dalaran, Traveller's Mammoth, Motorcycles, etc).
    -Ahn-Qiraj bugs
    -All Argent tournament mounts
-All PvP Mounts (have 3 of the 6 already)
    -Baron's Mount
-Tradeskill Mounts on my non-Paladins to balance out his exclusive Mounts
-White Hawkstrider (already have 4, just need 1 more)
    -some other random stuff

    What I WONT do:
-Winterspring Frostsaber: I did this once with my Hunter, and will NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER do it again!
-Depend on the mounts from ZG, Kara, UP or Sethik Halls (though I will still farm for them)

Now obviously this goal is going to take me many many months to attain, and probably wont be finished before Cataclysm. Which could be a good thing, because I'm sure there will be more (and easier) mounts to get by then, and I'll be able to train to make all of my Blue Dragonhawks to be 310 speed.

Thoughts? Am I too crazy? And I hope someone has not already done this as a 5-boxer, then I'll be a sad panda.

A friend is in the process of doing this as well. Only on one toon, not 5 so his experience will be different of course. The things he can't do solo you can easily do 5 boxing.

I went with a 5 person group to see about the phoenix mount in The Eye and well, we weren't equipped for it.

Good luck. I think it is a good way to spend your time before Cata.

    Ouch
Indeed. However I have gotten 3 in the past (though not on any of my current characters, damnit!)

Speaking as someone who has over 100 mounts on a single toon (never seen baron's mount drop though, nor do I have any other rare drop ones, not even the green proto (not on the char that has over 100 anyway , as far as rare mounts go)) and over 50 on a team of five, I commend you on committing to this task that may seem daunting to many but I personally call very doable.

Don't forget about the brewfest mounts if you don't have it yet already by then, and the celestial horse/recuit a friend mount (or new one if you already have old, but you know what i mean) if you don't mind the extra cash and don't already have.
Cheaper than buying the trading card or blizzcon ones anyway.

Aw, but those are my favorite mounts!

I have them on 21 of my level 80s and have started grinding rep for the last four.

Since I 10-box, it really doesn't take that long -
one lock and 2 other toons at the quest giver, one lock and two other toons at the village. Macros for party disband/invites and some quick summons and the travel time is cut down to about a quarter of normal (and that rep grind is all travel time). I even have my village guys kill non-quest mobs while travelling so I never have to wait on quest mobs to spawn.

The mounts are pretty rare and eye-catching since they are white-ish so when I'm gathering up scattered toons in Dalaran they are easy to spot.

Anyway, good luck with your mount gathering!

My original toon that I played a ton back in the day was a gnome fury warrior (back when fury warriors were laughed at and I had to fight tooth and nail for 1h drops in MC and BWL... though I still was top 3 in DPS).

Anyhoo, my gnome was the first on the server to get a tiger. I don't know how much time I spent grinding cloth, and turning in cloth, but it was a looong time. I still have that mount. I never traded it in for the new sabers, though I doubt anyone recognizes that I'm a gnome on a first generation epic mount that could have only been received by getting exalted with the elves, which was only possible with an ungodly amount of cloth turn-ins.

    Good luck on your goal!!!

First update! Got the 25 Mount Achievement this morning (just bought all the exodar mounts and the outlands griffons).

In addition to doing the Argent dailys every day (for the rest of my life!), my first priorities are going to be things that might change with Cataclysm:

-Ahn-Qiraj Bugs. They may not change the zone, but I'll start here anyway. 4 fairly easy mounts.
-Baron mount from Stratholme. The devs said that they would be changing Strat and Scholo, so I better do this now in case the loot changes
-PvP Mounts: Though I'm sure these wont be taken out, they are introducing the new currency systems which will have weekly caps, and they will be introducing Warsong Gultch 2, which I want no part of, so might as well get them now.

My absolute last priorities will be the Outlands reps. Particularly Netherwing and Kurenai. Those are gonna be brutal.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement, and I'll be dropping regular updates on my progress!

Netherwing is pretty easy and fast. Kurenai/Maghar isn't too bad either. Don't forget Shattari Skyguards (more dailies in BEM after you've opened the Ogrila ones). I've got about 90 mounts on each of my main team toons(bout 60 learned, bout 30 to buy). Been just too lazy to do any tournament dailies the last couple of months, so still quite a bit away from mountain o' mounts.

Can't have been that early if cloth turnins were already out.
I saw a video of a gnome that got the darnassus tiger when the only way was ungodly amounts of ungoro soil for the herb thing.

Netherwing is dailies and random eggs (eggs will not be party wide though, since you pick up one at a time) so you should get those started.
Kurenai is just kills/turnins, easily done in a couple days if you spend a lot of time on it.
Shatt Skyguard is also kills, and supplemented by dailies, so that can be quite easy too.
