With all other things being equal the 4Gb stick must run slower. When you put in twice as many 2Gb sticks the loads add up and so you run slower with 6 sticks as compared to 3. This is why not to go to 24G if you don't need it.

This is correct and you not only should never overclock your ram - it wont hurt to underclock your ram.

But underclocked ram is still WAY WAY faster then disk access.

That being said you will still get no texture loading lag with "slow" 24G ram.

Also yes use the QVL ram only, don't scrimp on some bucks for an unstable system.

Go down to 1066 ram (irrc thats the slowest for X58) if you have to and get 4G chips in my opinion.

Sure would be nice to talk blizzrd into storeing the textures in a seperate directory that could be on another drive, as thats what has to be swaped out all the time and the rest of wow could be on a disk drive.
