If you're trying to cut costs by only going with dual channel instead of triple channel I can only suggest you hold off until you can afford triple channel as to not cause headaches down the line during a memory upgrade. From the first post it almost looks as if you're going to try and drop a 930 into the same motherboard that is holding the Q6600, which isn't going to work.

Here is a generic answer. Yes if you upgrade your old hardware you will obviously see an increase in your frame rate, it would not make any sense if you upgraded your hardware from old school to mainstream and saw a performance drop.

yeah sorry i forgot to put the m/b in. it has 6x DIMM slots and triple channel memory

    nvidea 9800gt
    intel q6600 cpu
    corsair 4gb ram

    upgrading to

    Asus radeon ati 5770
    intel i7 930
corsair or kingston (undecided yet) 8 or 12gb ram (opinions?)
