Default Many of WoW: Launch WoW freezing using in Linux

Sorry, I really hate to be a burden. This would appear to be the final roadblock, and finding an answer to this has not been too fruitful of a search

    Hi!

As the title says, on a Linux machine (Ubuntu) Many of WoW seems to freeze for me, hanging on the Ouveture "character" step after clicking the Launch WoW button in the General tab. (Lancer WoW)

The nature of this will only do this when one or more accounts are scheduled to start upon launching (Ne pas lancer ce compte = oui).
It will run, and also connect to other computers (yes!), but, as far as I know, it does not have a keyclone like "find WoW's that are open", and you are required to launch the game through the program for it to be able to broadcast keys. Thus is my understanding of the problem It's sooo close to working, I can feel it! What a program Only running into this problem because I love Linux so much

I did not have much luck searching for Linux in the French forums. Are there any insider tips as to what might be the cause of Many of WoW not wanting to finish opening a WoW on Linux?

I realize that I may be only talking to you Daeri. Linux + Many of WoW on the English forums is a bit of minority to say the least. I insist, though, that there is no pressure to help out o to answer this question! I am a scrapper, and I will figure it out surely enough with more time I appreciate and am in debt to anyone willing to take a stab at answering this question.

Possibly helpful info in solving this:
This could be a permissions problem, but it is defying my understanding of Ubuntu at the moment. If I have, in the profile tab, WTF, addons, etc checked, I will get a "Impossible to move (the location of the wtf folder) to (the mow location). What sort of permissions are required? Do wine programs run outside of the users account? In group or even other? I have tried to remedy this via making symbolic links to point to copies of the Wtf folder, and also wow.exe; copies which have full permissions for all of the files and folders, but was not met with any luck. (I have checked off WTF, Addons and Cache in the "Répertoires indépendants" section of the profile tab for desperate testing purposes, as I would assume from the translation that symbolic links can take care of this neat feature fine

In addition, ,I have been using symbolic links to create clones among the wtf folders. Is this perhaps a problem? As far as I understand, Wine treats symbolic links as though they were 100% natural folders, but I may be very wrong

    Hi,

I'm 100% not sure I did understand your problem correctly but I'm trying anyway. So you're saying that you get an error when you click the "launch accounts" button and only the first wow account is started properly ?

Wine programs have the same rights as you unless you run them under a specific user. I guess you installed wow somewhere in your home folder so I guess that system rights are not the issue there. Even though I'm using symlinks like you I've kept separate WTF folders. That is because I wanted to be able to have different graphical settings on each account. (basically very high on the main, at the lowest level on all slaves). Also, I know that MoW uses its own own config.wtf file (its content is based on your original config.wtf before you first launched wow via MoW altered accordingly to MoW settings ) which it renames on the fly upon startup of the games. That behavior allows you to only use one installation of wow if you wish. Maybe you should try setting up separate wtf folders if that's what confuses MoW ? That being said, beware that "ne pas lancer ce compte" means "do not launch this account". This option should not be checked in most cases because you usually want to start all your accounts.

Another thing that maybe prevents me from fully understanding your issue is that I don't use MoW's autologin feature nor the one that automatically selects character on the character selection screen. I feel it's already enough mess as it is and I find it easier to just enter credentials and the authenticator code by hand

Hehe, Thank you Daeri! It's very helpful to know I can rule out many things based on your experiences, as well as move other theories to be "try only in desperate circumstances"

I have been able to get it to Launch WoW, but not all of the time The worst part is--- --I don't know what I did to have success with it I am trying to find out. It works sometimes, other times not. Regardless, however, is that key broadcasting does not appear to be working when it does open. I will post more when I further understand what is taking place so that I can help out anyone else, if there ever is any, which may be using MoW with Wine on Linux

I don't mean to drag you into helping me with this, as it seems rather system specific and complicated I was just curious if there were any options which were not Linux friendly, or simple solutions, but it would appear this will be quite an equation to get to work

I will not ignore your questions though! I did a very poor job explaining what my problem was, and the symptoms. I will do so with pictures

    Problem:

    +

    Will result in:

Freezing at the above stage (opening WoW). Also, recently, it will sometimes open WoW, but it will not broadcast keys. So close

    Possible symptoms:
When it freezes when it is trying to launch:
#1: In testing, I set use the WTF folder to see if that had any clues. () I will receive an error message: "Impossible de déplacer (location of WoW's WTF folder) vers (location of MoW's WTF folder)
#2: After it freezes, I will terminate MoWs process, and reopen MoW. I will then see this:

The inability for MoW to write to the directory, or it freezing on opening made me suspect that it might be a permissions problem, or perhaps even a symbolic link problem. I will double check to make sure everything is granted bountiful permissions.

Symptoms of it being able to open wow, but not broadcast keys to the other windows:

When it does successfully open, and everything seems to be working fine besides keybroadcasts:

#1 The Ubuntu (Gnome) desktop will change it's theme (Window border colors, icons, fonts, etc).
#2 Many of WoW does not give any clues, it will run as normal, and close windows as normal, but it will simply not broadcast keys.
My test shortcuts page looks like this

I'll figure this out soon enough, and will post how I did it to all the 2 or 3 people who may ever also have this problem But Hopefully there will be more than that! MoW seems incredible, as is Linux too, of course

I don't have enough time right now to dive into your issue (but it's really nice to see you're putting a lot of efforts to provide as many details as possible. I'm going to send them to Bastok so that he can have a look and hopefully help ) but when MoW successfully launches the game you see this red frame :

That means that key broadcasting is currently disabled. That's normal behavior. Enter your credentials and hit the "pause" key of your keyboard (somewhere in the upper-right corner). The frame will turn green and key broadcasting should now be enabled.

    About this feature :
I do not use it since I'm not sure what benefit I would gain from it because I use (partially, see below) symlinked separate wow folders for each account. Checking all 3 checkbox on this dialog allows you to run several wow accounts at the same time with only one wow installation. But you loose the ability to have different graphical settings for each acount.

So, either you check this option and you use the same profile for each character. Symlinks are not required anymore. Only one wow folder used.

Either you don't check this option and you can use symlinks. But I still highly recommand not symlinking Config.wtf because you'll end up with MoW trying to rename and change content of this file at startup (running several accounts at the same time = all Config.wtf files being written at about the same time = problems they're really all the same exact file in the same place).

My advice would be to symlink everything as you did but the WTF folder and uncheck "WTF", "Addons" and "Cache" folders . I think this should be enough to solve your issue.

Not sure my explanation are super clear I'll try and come back later today as soon as I can spare a moment

    Hi Cluadia.

First of all sorry for my bad english.

I've got a few questions, it seems that you use 2 computers, so i dont understand why you use symbolic links.

On several PC, each should have its own wow installation. Then you must configure 1 MoW per PC.
On 1 PC there are 2 solutions
    - Using 1 wow for all characters
    - Using 1 wow per character

What do you want to do exactly ?

Then we will see how to setup MoW properly

That was it! Thank you so much! I remember reading about how Pause was related to key broadcasting, but I did not know what to look for (the red border). It worked in windows without having to press Pause, but on Linux, I needed to Thanks again!

It will still sometimes not load, and lock up when it is trying to open a wow (Often times, after forcing MoW to close, then the WoW window will appear). But, give it a few tries, and it will work I'm still desperately trying to figure what might be causing this, but I am very happy with it opening up eventually, and this would only be to help others which might for some reason be in my situation

---And thank you very much for the personal attention Bastok, this is a wonderful program, and I'll do my best to promote the program to all that I know! As far as I know, your program stands as the only working Linux multi computer solution, and it's a good one at that It is well worth the small time it takes read the directions from a google translation, as it simply will work.

To clarify to others, and to simply answer your questions even though the answer is solved, here is what was achieved:

    This works:

Using Many of WoW to key broadcast to two machines: A Linux (Ubuntu) host machine and a Windows Xp slave machine. Multiple instances work fine on both machines. (2 + 2 setup specifically for me)

While Synergy is not technically needed, I am using it for the sole purpose of using 1 mouse and 1 keyboard.

I apologize about forgetting to answer the question, but my setup has simply been to run different WoW instances from one WoW installation. Symbolic linking is being used, however it is to link keybindings, accounts, etc within the WTF folder (It stinks to have to copy and paste constantly on a Windows box, and, from what I believe I have translated, MoW can make someone on Windows' life a lot easier Vs. this problem

I'll be happy to help anyone whom might be thinking about taking the MoW plunge who speaks English (Or any other language if you don't mind very haunting bad translations Thanks again to all who have helped, and fine program, again, Bastok

Is the wow that locks up running on the second computer (I mean not the one you're physically at ) ? If so, as I only multibox using using one computer so I fear I won't be able to help much on that specific issue :s
