I saw Splice. This is my review in a nutshell :

I would have been much happier if -

1. David Hewlett had a much bigger part. I saw David Hewlett and Adrien Brody in the same movie and nearly happy-danced out of my chair.

2. I left 15-20 minutes before the end. It was almost awesome up until the last act.

3. They used a name other than "Dren". I kept thinking of Farscape. Especially at the end when I kept saying "What the frell is this dren?!"

But all in all, it made me want to go back and watch Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, The Pianist and Farscape...so, I guess it worked out.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about the new Karate Kid remake. That's probably the next one I'll see.

edit - man, thinking about Splice again, now I want to watch A Dog's Breakfast, too. Yeah, I'm a big flaming Sci-fi geek as well as a gamer. I'm also female, so suck it. :X

Saw "The A Team" yesterday.

Having grown up in the era of the orignial T.V. show, I wasn't expecting much. If you've ever watched the original show, you know that nobody ever died, and the story lines were corny. As a kid I loved the show, but I cringe when I see the re-runs now. Being a UFC/MMA fan, I think "Rampage" is funny in that context, but I wondered how his acting would show up on the big screen. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The story was a bit choppy, but the action was non-stop. There was plenty of humor, and I think that's what I liked about it the most. It wasn't over the top humor. It was well timed and relevant. I don't laugh out loud during movies often, but I did during this one. Rampage seemed to fit into the role, which I didn't expect. However, "Murdock" stole the show. "Face Man" was good as well. The only person I had trouble with was Liam Neeson. It wasn't his acting. He just didn't seem old enough to be Hannible, but that's just me bringing my teenage baggage to the movie.

This isn't a must see when compared to what's out there at the moment, but it is a rent it for sure.

Interesting take. Remembering BA as one of my favorite characters (corniness and all) and not liking Rampage after watching last season's The Ultimate Fighter, I'm very leery of him reprising that role. Listening to a few comments he made about the movie and his part (he said something to the effect of "Please, God, don't let me be the actor that screws up this remake"), I may give it a shot.

King Kong was a tedious and boring movie to me. The Pianist is where I fell in love with Adrien Brody.

Just saw "The Last Air Bender" in 3D. The original Animated series won many "Annie" awards and also a Peabody Award (international awards for excellence in radio and television broadcasting.) So I really thought this was going to be good.

In short... I was disappointed. This is a great story but I can't say I like the way it was told on the screen. The acting was less than stellar. The little boy that played Aang was the worst of them all, but I might have felt better about his acting if the rest of the cast supported him. They should have taken some of the special effects money and hired better actors. I mean c'mon.... Aasif Mandvi from "The Daily Show." Dev Patel (Slumdog) didn't show up. The only actor I enjoyed was Shaun Toub who played Iroh, Zukos uncle.

Whle the effects were gorgeous, they were slow moving and anticlimatic. Waaay too much Tai Chi. The editing was noticeable, and by noticeable I mean choppy. I think if you didn't have at least a little back story you might have been lost. Having watched "Avatar: The Last Air Bender" with my kids when they were younger, I can't help but feel this movie would have been better animated. I will give it another shot if I find it in the Wal-Mart $5 dollar bin.

In the end, this was a kids show so I really don't want to dump on this movie, but if you've got something else you are thinking about seeing... see it. If you must see it on the big screen, some pre-movie preperation might be in order.

So, I went to see Predators last night. Brody impressed me. Still a B movie but a very solid, entertaining B movie.

Saw Karate Kid with the kids this weekend. Nice remake that gives good nods to the original story, but doesn't just copy the whole thing. Some of the ending scenes had some questionable acting (maybe because I saw the original).

I'm looking forward to seeing "Inception" in July.
