Default Shodokan's Army - Cataclysm Preperation & Discussion

Disclaimer:There are some aspects of this plan that are considered "theory-crafting" and can ONLY BE DONE ON A FULL SERVER ON THE SCALE I WILL BE DOING IT!

    Introduction
I'm Colin. Better known around the web as Shodokan. This post is to inform the dual-boxing community of my efforts to obtain "wow infamy." Before you jump to conclusions as to the point of all this i would like to explain my definition of "wow infamy." My aim in cataclysm is to help my friends enjoy this game much more than your average person. I'm creating a core 10 man guild which will eventually morph into a 25 man guild throughout cataclysm. The overall aim is through the help of some friends in the front end to be the first "single" person to fund an entire guild of player's world of warcraft experience that is not funded by some sort of corporation or sponsor. This includes but is not limited to; training, mounts, repairs, professions, gems, enchants and BOE gear for the current raid content. To do this i've started having friends reach out to their friends and inform them of my plan for the future and talking to them...seeing what they are like and i guess you could say having "tryouts."

Thus "Shodokan's Army" is setting out to start cataclysm preparation. So far this group is going strong and includes the following people at this given time.

    • My Self
    • Rude
    • Robert
    • Dane
    • Mike
    • Ben
    • Justin
    • Kate
    • Charlie
    • Kenny!!!

The "army" is starting out with the task of getting materials for leveling JC for 40 toons and alchemy materials for another 8 toons. Deviant has been nice enough to host on his home server a database for all materials needed along with a user interface for showing where items are in what guild bank (we are using 4 of them) and I'd like to give him a special shout out because of all of his hard work on that. Also like to thank kenny for about 70% of the materials i will need to level JC on all 40 toons.

All of them are miners and have herbalist alts, meaning that my professions will hit max level by the end of week one on all my toons come cataclysm. Even if i have to buy most of the mats that's NP.

    Why Jewel Crafting/Alchemy?
Some of you may be wondering why I'm strictly going JC/Alchemy opposed to incorporating other professions into my arsenal as originally planned. The reason for this is simple...money. JC/Alchemy will produce the highest sum of cash per week for AT LEAST the first six months of the expansion after which JC will only slightly fall behind Tailoring. This is due to the fact that for the past two expansions they have kept a solid timeline of 2 years for content and have released epic gems at a point at least 6 months into the game's lifetime. In WOTLK's lifetime it was in September of 2009 which is ten months after launch which is around what it was in BC which was twelve months exactly(hyjal brought epic gems).

    The math behind JC
For those of you who remember the start of wrath you remember the price of thing were insane. Below were the approximate stabilized prices on Illidan horde for cut, uncut gems and ore. We can expect something similar in cataclysm for at least the first six months. If you compensate for the increase in gold added to the game based upon the quests you can expect higher prices than this much like the prices inflated in WOTLK.

    Cut
    Red/Yellow/Blue: 250g
    Purple/Green/Orange = 175g

    Uncut
    Red/Yellow/Blue: 200g
    Purple/Green/Orange = 150g
    Dragon's Eye = 100

    Ore: 45g per stack

Having 40 jewel crafters is simply for the fire prism for the most part. Any toon high enough to do or get carried through the dailies (4 low level toons, 1 high level) also contribute one token per day.

40 JC require 120 of each green gem per cooldown. This is quite a bit if you ask me, but in the long run especially buying bulk ore it's nothing. This means that at least 840 of each green gem are required per week. On a high population server this is easy to accomplish but on a low pop server unless you buy ALL the ore you will not get this much.

Each stack of ore gives 4 prospects with the chances of the following:
    4% per blue quality gem
    18% per green quality gem

Assuming the cost of ore is 60g per stack (lowball imo with the gold from quests and such) we can assume that it will take at least 1200 stacks of ore per week. Which gives 4800 prospects.

This means the total cost of the stacks: ~72000g

    MATHMATICALLY
Blue Quality (at least amount below)
    192 red
    192 blue
    192 yellow
    192 orange
    192 purple
    192 green

    Uncut Value: [(192*3*200)+(192*3*150)] = [(115200)+(84640)] = 201600
    Cut Value: [(192*3*250)+(192*3*175)] = [(144000)+(100800)] = 244800

Green quality (at least amount below)864 red
    864 blue
    864 yellow
    864 purple
    864 green
    864 orange

So lets assume we can get the SEVEN prisms per week per toon. We are going to go by the math behind icy prism for computing this because of the fact that chimera eye will exist, but i will also show the math behind brilliant glass as well (single gem opposed to 2.5 average)

    Icy Prism Type (280 per week) = 2.5 * 280 = 700 gems average
    70 chimera's eye
    112 red
    112 blue
    112 yellow
    112 purple
    112 green
    112 orange

    Uncut
    Value: [(3 * 200 *112) + (3 * 112 * 150) + (70 * 100)] = [(67200)+(50400)+(7000)]
    Total Value: 124600
    Including prospected gems: 326200
    Profit: 254200

    Cut
    Value: [(3 * 250 *112) + (3 * 112 * 175) + (70 * 100)] = [(84000)+(58800)+(7000)]
    Total Value: 149800
    Including prospected gems: 394600
    Profit: 322600

Brilliant Glass Type (280 gems per week, assume chance of 10% for chimeras eye for a 2nd gem and only this due to this item being in the game, the mechanic must be compensated for)
    28 chimera's eye
    47 red
    47 blue
    47 yellow
    47 purple
    47 green
    47 orange

    Uncut
    Value: [( 3 * 47 * 200) + (3 * 47 * 150) + (28 * 100)] = [(28200) + (21150) + (2800)]
    Total Value: 52150
    Including prospected gems: 253750
    Profit: 181750

    Cut
    Value: [( 3 * 47 * 250) + (3 * 47 * 175) + (28 * 100)] = [(35250) + (24675) + (2800)]
    Total Value: 62725
    Including prospected gems: 307525
    Profit: 235525

The brilliant glass model is worth approximately 100k less gold than the icy prism model.

But do not fret...the community of jewel crafters are use to the way the system works now and with the casual aspect of cataclysm increasing we can expect the icy prism model because it allows for people who to choose this profession less startup time for getting the gear gemmed. If i were a betting man i'd bet quite a bit on this.

    Alchemy
The recipes are released and there will be extra gems left over from the above which can be used, you can always purchase more ore though, not suggested though, better to take the hit.

As we know the alchemy masteries are staying. This means we have a 15% chance to get an extra gem per toon. Which turns out to be (using 7 cool downs per week) = 40 * 7 * .15 = 42 extra gems

At the beginning of WOTLK (at least on my server) stacks of herbs were 35g per stack and stayed there for a while. This means that you need 6 stacks of herbs per day. Total cost should be around 300g for that per day. So 2100g per week.

You get AT LEAST 320 gems per week. ( i assume you will only make blue, yellow, red)

    Uncut worth: (320 * 200) = 64000
    Cut worth: (320 * 250) = 80000

Overall profit between 6200 and 7800g

We can also assume that each toon will have a DAILY cool down for metas. DO NOT over-do metas! I suggest maybe making 20 metas per day maximum if you have the materials. Since there will only be a single meta type you can assume these will be worth approximately 300g each to start much like at the start of WOTLK, cut they were selling for close to 400 on my server, it might be different on yours but i assume this will be the case.

Like i said before... DO NOT DO METAS unless you have spare mats, blue/yellow/red gems will be paramount.

HOLY WALL OF TEXT BATMAN!!! I say screw all profs and just do dailies, heroics or BGs, and or any combo of the three. Professions are boring! I do enough professions to be able to provide my own needs, not for money. I have 200k atm and made 90% in heroics and turning in honor for gems. I'm sure you will get filthy rich though! Have fun sitting on all those digets!

This is the beauty of warcraft, there's a ton of ways to get gold, so you should do the one that you like the most, or hate the least. I bounce around, i did quests for a while, then did heroic grinding, then did pvp grinding and bought gems, then did professions. I think ill get a few more crafters leveled, but nothing on the kind of scale Shodokan is doing.

Good luck, I hope you reach your goal! Maybe be the first to figure out if they up the gold cap?

I dont understand how you think using 10 people to make a shitload of gold on a market you have not even seen in action yet will get you Infamy? I also dont understand how having an insane amount of gems makes you a hardcore raider.

TBH everytime I come back to look at these forums it is turning more and more into your blog. You create one thread after the other, each big and grand and full of ideas only to change your plans in 2 days to something else.

I'm looking forward to when Cata launches and these forums might possible get back to being less about your ideas and more about multiboxing.

Good luck with your ideas, but seriously go get a blogspot account and go be on woweconomicreview.com if you want attention.

I'll be honest, I don't follow your every move but I really can't avoid your threads [there's that many of them] and I haven't seen you bragging about hitting that goal. So... did you hit it? Have you hit any of the larger goals you've set out for? Really not trying to be a dick [other people see me as one] because I think your posts are quite entertaining [when I do read them] but...
what makes this goal so different?

I like the idea, however, don't let anyone just take advantage of you, there can be bad infamy too.
However, your planning for the jewelcrafting and alchemy sounds brilliant. I leveled 5 jewelcrafters for the same reason on a smaller scale, and plan to do some alchemists and tailors for the same reasons.

    Some pointers for the jewelcrafting.
Good tin and silver can be gotten from redridge mountain.
Mithril, badlands, near the whelps yeilds a nice amount.
Thorium. I cannot stress how good Un'Goro Crater is in getting thorium ore for higher end jems for jewelcrafting. it is an absolute godsend getting them.
As for fel iron and adamantite.... this will be a pain, however, don;t despair, nagrand and terokkar forest are great for adamantite, only problem is, you may end up with a lot of useless outland blue-quality gems.

I hit 400k, spent it, hit 200k, spent it, now i'm over 400k again. So i've hit it, just not accumulated 1 mill in the bank.

Well, it's 4am and i can't really put into words the difference. But hitting 1 million gold period, and this gold are far different.

I did that with what? Shadowmourne? Profession information wasn't availible even to alpha players, so once the idea of the whole "re-fresh" of gear was 100% true even at level 81 it made them pointless. Why continue with a goal that means nothing in the end when i can put that time into this which in the long run does much much more for me.

    several problems:

on paper it always looks better ;-)
ah sales are limited, especially things over 100g+
there are hundreds other JCs on your server :-)
doing this every day sounds very painful.

While it's not necessarily true for everyone, one can argue that doing the same dailies and same heroics over and over is kinda boring as well. Friday night i bought mats worth 20k (cross faction), shipped them to my respective crafters, did the crafts, some listed on AH, some had to be shipped back to other faction. Periodically checked them over the weekend including relist. In the end it took me about 2,5 hours over a 3 day course. Made a 27k profit in total. Which makes it way less boring than grinding for me.

On a final note: while sodo's *extreme* approach does not fit me, he kinda achieved what he said he would do months ago. And his gold manual contained a couple of tips that were really worth it for me. I'd never really think about multiple JC's. But the idea that you can do more cuts faster made me decide to go for at least 4.

You guys always seem to be a bit hard on Shado. He takes his WOW seriously and I enjoy his posts personally. Shad plays WOW much different than I but he's playing the way he enjoys which is more important than anything.

As slow as these forums are I don't see the problem. People like Shad are what keep forums going by frequent posts and keeping the conversation moving. He made that nice gold guide for all of us here detailing how he made money. I'm sure that took a lot of time and effort.
