Thread: 5 shaman specs

    Default 5 shaman specs

So, I'm in the process of farming honor for gear and trying to setup my team. I'm currently running 2 resto and 3 elemental which really helps with the 0 resilience issue.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried this combo when geared? I've already bought 2 offset items, and started down the path of 2 healers and 3 dps. Now I'm nervous that I might need to regear the healers.

What I've noticed is that against 4-7 similar geared players I can hold my own for a bit and every now and then pull off a win. Of course against better geared opponents I just get trashed. And the people smart enough to spot the glowing gold shaman burn them down fast, but that doesn't happen as often as you'd think.

Anyone else try this out? I've found 3 dps still burn down people, not an insta-gib, but the healers keep the dps up while they take out targets.

Could 1 resto shaman keep a team of 5 alive? I've noticed mana issues with crap gear but don't know what it is like with decent gear.

With good gear you don't need any resto.

What do you mean by glowing gold shaman?
I'm going to live forever, or die trying.

Could be earthshield? That's more brown though..

With 5 shammies, run all elemental. Make 5 macros each where you can have the other 4 lesser heal the one getting hammered, I've found 4 lesser heals will easily take you to full in the short cast time it has. Get insta-cast ghost wolf and practice getting away when you're getting slapped around, get some room and nuke. Make use of 5 magma totems and nova, and put your thunderstorm on round robin, and only use it when melee are on you. I've killed people in the air after a t-storm/insta lava burst combo more than I can remember (and it never gets unfunny, trust me).

When you get gear, you'll want all of them elemental. Even with 4 shaman (what I run), I manage just fine. 4x chain heal is very powerful even off-spec.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I've been nervous about the time investment to gear up for pvp and didn't want to gimp my team.

The gold thing I was talking about is the particle effect from casting chain heal.

I spent most of yesterday writing macros for my 2 resto 3 elem setup and for the most part it works. Since I have pve gear it allows me to take a beating for a few seconds longer than normal. Basically the elemental have the standard click macros on buttons 2 and 3, while the resto have dps on button 2 (shocks, lava burst, chain lightning) and a click heal rotation on button 3 (riptide, lesser heal, chain heal). It's kind of like managing boomkin procs.

The nice thing is the dps doesn't stop for heals.

So you can dps with all 5 when you need or start throwing around riptide, chain heal and lesser heal (rotating off the leader) when you're swarmed. The resto dps is pretty sad but it helps. Plus, with the resto talents you have an instant crit chain heal that tops off the whole group. Earth shield on your lead guys is pretty nice too.

I like the idea of 5 elem and will try that next. I was concerned that 5 lava bursts is overkill since 3-4 seem to get the job done, but I can see now how 5 shocks or 5 chain lightnings can work.
