5 Shamans - Bad Idea?

Is 5 boxing 5 Shamans a bad idea because there is no designated tank? Or is it better for PvP when having a Tank is more viable for PvE? I started with it because it seemed really easy and simple to start out with. Anyways is it a bad idea to level 5 shamans? Or should I add a Paly in there to tank? Or will I be fine doing dungeons/PvP with 5 shammys? Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you want to do dungeons you need the trinity- tank/healer/dps. For PVP you don't need a tank

If you want to pvp primarily, but to have a pve option.
Take a look at Feral/Balance druid (dual-spec) with 4x Shaman.

You'll get 13% spell power from the druid.
Can either drive the druid and manually manage eclipse.
Or approximate eclipse procs and not really care about managing them.
Either way, I'd leave the druid in moonkin full time, and heal with shammies if needed.

That then also gets you a Feral tank.
Which should open all 5-man heroics to your team.

Or (alternatively) for less money spent/ease of use/whatever, just go four shaman. Good enough to do PvE AND PvP with, less for you to worry about as far as tank positioning, and it still looks badass.

Or not. Upcoming trip to europe says no. Plus the grind for gear sucks more balls than a tranny.

or you could 5 box 1 pally 4 shamans. Tank with the pally and go pvp with just the 4 shamans.

5 shamans isn't what it used to be. 4 shamans, is versatile enough for PvP and PvE but it seems everyone prefers melee characters in PvP now due to interact with target swarming.

I play with 5 shamans. PvE can be tough. You can clear a lot of heroics. But ICC heroics are not doable for me (22k hp/ 2200SP) atm. And you cant use the dungeonfinder

I'm thinking here you meant to say "You can't clear a lot of heroics." Right?

Cause I would be extremely surprised to find any Heroic (Oculus aside *myabe*) that could be cleared without a dedicated Defense-capped, high-dodge/parry/avoidance/life tank.

I can clear every non ICC heroic with relative ease using 5 shammys and that includes TOC. The jousting was changed a few patches back where they hit a lot harder, but as long as you micro manage switching to a new mount, it's still very doable. The bosses are a joke in comparision to the jousting phase.

But yah, in order to do it, you pretty much need to outgear the daylights out of the instance - I'm over 3700 SP on all my guys.

One thing I hate about 5 shammys and dungeons means that you can't use the dungeon finder tool, which also means you can't do the daily heroic by queuing them as you have to have a tank in your party. I've been running 4 a time and slowly working on my perky pugs, but the not being able to queue them together is a serious discouragement. I got stuck with a tank in Azol'Nerub that didn't do anything the entire time. Rather than votekick him, I wanted the last laugh at doing a complete clear without his help.

Maybe you can clear some heroics with 5 shamans but is much easier with tank and in pvp 4 shamans is enough
