Suppose a person were two boxing a toon with mining and a toon with herbing... are there any addons (or would it even be possible) to show things seen by one character on the other characters minimap?

Failing that, even just the follow character whispering to the main "I see a lichbloom" would work.

At the moment I'm simply running with the second toons minimap blown up 4x the size and in the near corner of the monitor to the main, but clearly this is an inelegant solution.

No. I used Gathermate and Chinchilla minimap. Have Gathermate show your main the location of herb and ore nodes {don't bother loading it on the slave}. Use Chinchilla to change the node blips on the slave to something easier to see {Oversized Blizzard icons or the Nadini set worked well for me.} Then whenever you come across an area that your main shows as a spawnpoint for your slave's nodes, just glance over. I used this with herbs, ore and engineering on 3 seperate toons.

Carbonite will also show spawn points even if your main doesn't have the profession. Has a ton of handy features

Chinchilla can be assigned a key to blow the mini-map to 50 -800% size. I have a key map in IS Boxer so W on the main sends ; to the gatherers.

I use a map addon and literally blow the size of the map to the whole screen for the slave. Could be a possibility (Grid will show me if they are out of range of a cast so I use that to make sure all toons are following).

I'm using chinchilla, I didn't realize it was as easy as a keybind to toggle the minimap size, thanks!
