Default Circle of healing vs holy nova

From a PvP perspective, and coming from someone who hasn't played a priest since vanilla, why do I need to get the 41 pt talent CoH if holy nova costs a similar amount of mana and can also damage enemies? I can see in a PvE setting that you'd want to have distance between you and the boss and therefore use CoH, but for PvP why use CoH over holy nova?

If youre stacked I cant see why it would be better to use COH

UNLESS more talents buff it and/or it has a better coefficient, but I havent looked closely enough at the situation to answer that question definitely.

"From a pvp perspective" you probably shouldn't be going holy at all.

Go disc on your healer and give yourself some nice bubbles. Just make sure you add weakened soul to grid so you know the second you can rebubble a toon.

Froma pve perspective, holy nova requires your healer to be in the thick of a big group of possibly AOEing and cleaving mobs... circle of healing can be cast from far away.

I agree that solo PvP you use disc, but we're talking about multiboxing and having to AoE heal like crazy since your toons are likely bunched up and you need to play many roles at once. That's the biggest strength of a priest, I thought, was the massive easy AoE heals. My locks and priest will likely always be on top of each other, and in range of holy nova, so I was curious why go for CoH. I guess if I don't need to get the 41 point talent then that allows me to go deeper into the disc tree

joing the pack here. holy nova just isn't as mana efficient per healing you get out of coh at least as far as PVE goes. most priest who are shadow in pvp go disc, not holy, nless you are sam and you have 37 toons to heal with 10 priests or something

    peace out

I'm about to hit 80 on my priest/3xhunters and want to try my hand at BGs again like I did while around 40. Did pretty good at lower levels, but I'm wondering if anyone has a good talent build they'd suggest? My priest leads my 3 hunters around and I heal my team with Healbot but may change to Grid or Vuhdu. I'd appreciate any tips here.

For pvp shield spam is a must must must, so is fast mass dispel. Also super convenient for your purposes will be divine aegis, which will proc you lots of little shields as you holy nova your group.

don't forget to prayer of mending a lot! (more like whenever its on cooldown than whenever it wears off a lot)

My main is a priest and I've played around with holy in BGs but as an OMG STOP THE MULTIBOXER target, you really need your healer to be as sturdy as possible, and that means going disc.

holy nova-694 mana no cooldown about 1800 healing in my gear for this test
coh-729 mana, 6 second cooldown (and 6 seconds is a LONNNNNNNG time in pvp). about 2400 healing

Definitely looks like disc is the way to go. I thought holy because of CoH, but for PvP if holy nova is arguably better then I'd definitely like to have the other toys that comes with a disc build (shields). Thanks

In a PvP multiboxing setting, you're going to be doing much more single target sustained healing when one of your toons gets focused. I'll stand with the people saying go Disc. I've been a disc priest since March and it's pretty crazy what they're able to do. If you spec / glyph for smite, you can even help DPS where that little extra dps will mean the difference between a kill and a heal landing on an enemy.

Edit: Not to mention disc + lots of spell power = HUGE effective health increases + pain suppression + mass dispel to break pally bubbles.
