    Default New to the scene

Hi everone, as you can tell im Crovean and im new to the multi-boxing scene.

I have just recently found this website and have been pondering over whether or not i wanted to try this out, and i have come to the conclusion that i will.

I plan on running two computers each running only one instance of WoW just to get a little familiar with how this works.

Synergy is probably the best bet for this setup, correct?

I have Synergy all setup and ready to use between the two computers and can switch between one or the other and both at once 8)

I was just wondering what the best way to setup macro's for the alternate computer would be. eg. shift+1 etc? And how do i get the Synergy on the alternate computer to realise that shift+1 coming from the main computer is just 1? (eg. the number 1 key) As i will be using 1-0 on the main computer for the main character and shift+1-0 as the alternate binds.

If anyone knows what im on about could you please drop me a line? If your not quite sure what im asking for just say so and ill try explain it better.

    Hi Crovean,

    Welcome to Multi-Boxing!

I use Synergy myself (make sure you get the keyboard broadcaster version listed here), but you might also want to try the multibox software.

As to keys - the easiest way to have Shift-1 activate your alt is to bind the Shift-1 key to action bar slot 1 on your second machine, and un-bind it from your main machine. That way, your main will ignore the keypress but your alt will take action.

Other things to watch... Synergy broadcasts all keys (unlike multibox which can broadcast only some keys), so you'll need to un-bind the movement keys on your second computer. I unbind qweasd on the alt (so I can use them for my main movement) and unbind the arrow keys on the main computer (so these now control my alt).

I also setup bind a key to turn on and off Synergy keyboard broadcasting (so stuff in chat isn't said by both characters simultaneously) and another key to run a 'follow main' macro.

Finally, I set a Synergy hotkey (as described here) to 'stay on one screen' when the right mouse is pressed. Without this, you won't be able to use the mouse to position the camera on your second computer.

    Good luck!

    David.

By having a keyboard broadcasting enable/disable key wouldn't that allow you to still have "wasd" as your movement buttons on both characters? EG. You have it on, you push w to move forward.. both characters moveforward but then have a synergy hotkey for when w is released to cast macro follow main?

    Thanks

I prefer to use the 'follow leader' mechanism rather than having both chars respond to the movement keys. Otherwise navigating small areas and going through doorways becomes a problem really quickly.

If you set 'w' to follow, but leave the other movement keys bound, as soon as your main turns left/right, your alt will leave follow.

I use follow when questing, and use the two sets of movement keys when I want the chars to be doing different things (like each visiting their profession trainers). Takes some skill to move two separate chars through one of the major cities at the same time!

    David.
