I appreciate the feedback to this point, now the monkey wrench in this scenario is that my main is a Rogue. Therefore I have a melee class in the arsenal that isn't a tank. So how does this change some of the original suggestions? (I forgot to put it in my original post!)

    Pokeit,

If you can stretch for it financially (decent pc, $75/month in subs) I'd seriously recommend going 5. It gives you the full range of PvE and PvP options.

As to the rogue main, that'd need to change for PvE (and PvP too I'd suspect).

If I were you, I'd make 4 new accounts, raf 'em to your current account, plonk a paladin on the main account and raf up 4 shamans/paladins etc on the new RAF'd accounts.

After all, if you're gonna multibox why not go the whole hog eh? hehe
...for when one toon just isn't enough...

    Horde Caelestrasz Multiboxer:
Team1: 5xPaladin....Level 80 - Heroic gearing completed. WTB [Frost Badge] pst pls.
    Team2: 1xPaladin/4xShaman....Level 80 - On Hiatus, Awaiting Cata.

Contact on: Nevergonna on Realm Caelestrasz (Horde)

Caelestrasz Horde: 5 Active 5 Boxers and counting.

I guess it's because I have a lot of achievements and mounts and things on my rogue that I refuse to do again I'd like to supplement him in most cases. So perhaps I could swing Pal+3+rogue.
If I was to add only one acct I'd add Pal, Dru, ( poss Shm) to the new acct
If I added two: Pal on one acct, dru/shm on other

honestly, I don't feel that I am multiboxing yet as long as prepared and sam are out there causing epic boxer hate threads and whatnot, or just being clowns. If only bliz had the ingame leg mount "school bus" trainable for 2g for locks, life would then be loverly
