the name selected for this character has been deemed as inappropriate for the world of warcraft by the in-game support staff of blizzard entertainment. If you feel that you may have any additional names on your account that violate our naming policy, please submit an in-game petition with the name(s) in question. Doing so may prevent further actions on your account. Should you have any other names on your account that violate our naming policy and they are reported, the names will be changed and your account may incur further penalties. We will allow you a 7-day grace period to notify us of any potential naming violations on your account. Please take this opportunity to inform us of any further naming violations on your account so they can be resolved without further penalties to your account, by submitting an in-game petition on one of your characters that does not violate our naming policy.

If you’re interested in changing any of the previously inappropriate character names to one of your choice, please do visit our paid character name change service: (https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/acco...nge-intro.html)

Well, I personally do prefer silk, but I think a warning due to your fabric preferences is a bit over the top.

When you toe the line, you have to expect that you exist at the sufferance of the gods. They've basically implemented the policy that anything that anyone/any group might find offensive can be actioned, but we won't enforce it unless someone reports you.

[mouth-breather edit] No, I wouldn't report anyone for this or most any other naming violation and, frankly, you'd have to pull some heinous grade-school-stupid shit to get my attention. But then, neither am I one of those panty-twisted morons who thinks they have the right to not be offended.

You obviously love satin and silky fabrics I don't see the problem

But...happens to the best of us. They made me change one of my guys years ago Holycrap =( Wish I'd saved the letter I had a funny dialogue with the GM. They said that I couldn't have Holy because it was in reference to a diety. So I said well then it's ok to just name myself Crap?!

That's why I made a name like Jinkobi completely homemade name lol, they can't say CRAP about that.

really?? That's laughable considering my warlock has a dominatrix for a pet. It's a game of killing and looting and someone gets offended by that? I'd email them back and ask them to explain how someone worshiping a textile could possibly be considered offensive. Little good it would do though.... sorry for your loss.

If they want to be so 'clean' with the players names as they might maybe perhaps sometimes offend a single player, they better filter their content as well.

I remember a quest where you had to go in a cave with a key: 'so long suckers, i'm outa here' (think his name was grmbl or something).

Also the daily quest in icecrown (think its called attack by ground, the escort one). When you are done the guy says 'blood and honor friend'. Blood & honor is one of the bigger nazi clubs in europe ..

Etc, etc, the list is endless.

A Community Representative once told us, when asked on the European official forums, that their naming policy is to be respected by players not by the dev team. if I remember correctly there was a drama where a player was reported to have chosen a pun as a name, similar to one that exists in the name of a NPC.

Also, if you are on a role playing server, the naming policy explicitly forbids names made of "partial or complete sentences"
(see http://www.wow-europe.com/en/policy/namingp1.html for the complete policy).

My very first character - Fursphere - was originally named "TheFuzz" - a year after I created the character I was forced to change it. /sigh

I would personally call Blizzard and plead your case. Because someone can't READ, you shouldn't be punished for it. I included the word "THE" so I was clearly in violation - even thought I didn't know of the rule when I named my character .
